| Quote ="Tony Stark"Without a moment's hesitation the Galaxy S2 of those two, its the pretty much the best smartphone out there right now and I include the iphone in that. Although, if you like the HTC's better build quality and Sense UI, the HTC Sensation is very nearly at the same level as the S2, it has a new updated version of Sense and a better screen if you read alot of text (the S2 is better for images and arguably video). The HTC is only available on Voda at the moment but will be on other networks this coming month.
Both have a dual core processor, can film in '1080p' hd and have 8mp cameras if you like that sort of thing.'"
Contract is up on 12th June so I will see what deals are available but I don't want to spend more than £25 per month so it looks like the HTC Desire S. I can get 300 mins, unltd texts and 500mb internet for £25.00 per month plus 8 months free of the 24 month contract.
Thanks for the help.

If your contract is up bitch at them, threated to leave and you may be able to get a better deal over 18 months with a better handset.

| Due to 3 reasons:
1. Come to detest current phone (Palm Pre - HP who now own Palm seem to have abandoned the UK market, and I wouldn't mind a smartphone that isn't 2 years out of date and cannot be updated)
2. Contract isn't up until March (my fault for taking out a 24 monther)
3. Bit of cash windfall from Mother that is intended to be spent on a gift for myself
I've decided to get a new, sim-free phone. Amazon currently have a HTC Wildfire, sim-free for £170.
Anyone got any experience with them? I've had a play with a mate's Desire S and really liked it, I assume the Wildfire is similar but somewhat of a downgrade. I'm not looking for top of the range stuff, just a decent Android phone to tide me over until upgrade day (and not particularly fond of Samsungs)

It's good mate, I've had one since last September and I've had no problems with it. It's a downgrade from the Desire and all that but basically it does the same job just on smaller scale. Really good phone only let down for is the Android apps.

mainly because the quality of the phone isn't as good the apps are quite low quality too mate. To be honest the only ones I use are Racing Post, Facebook and a couple of fitness ones which aren't too bad but the higher quality phones would probably give you a better quality and quicker running app. But in general the Android apps aren't great, the ones available are quite crap although it is getting better and I'm noticing quite a lot of Iphone apps are becoming available in android so it is getting there.

Quite crap? I've used both an iphone and an Android phone and I prefer the Android store. It has loads of quality apps and unlike the Apple store isn't just what Apple want you to have/do on your phone. There are a few fantastic customisation apps on Android, like Beautiful widgets etc, and you won't get that on Apple.
Some quality apps:
Kindle
Google Street view
Power AMP
Reckless Racing
Lastfm
Tune in radio (Fabulous for Super League. You can get all the regional radio stations with none of the usual 'You cannot play this on the internet because of licence issues you get with streaming on a PC)
What kind of Apps from Apple would you like to see on Android? The only ones I ever see people with an iphone use are things like the Keith Lemon app.

Ah right, cheers Dan, much appreciated. Always hard to know what to go for really, just not fussed with an IPhone though for some reason (e.g. doesn't seem worth putting £100 towards the handset when a lot of the stuff I'll probably never use).

Sweet, also heard good reports from another mate, think gonna go for it but just a bit unsure what version. Is the Desire HD pretty pricey on contract?

Shouldn't be as it's been out a while. I know it's free on 30 quid deals with 3.

That's what I was thinking when I got my upgrade last year, I wasn't convinced it was worth paying that much out for, especially with the bad press they got. I was going to get the Desire but two different people in two different shops and reviews online I changed my mind to the Wildfire as I was after a cheaper contract. I saw the Desire HD one for the first time last week, a mate of mine has just got it and it's a quality bit of kit mate, I'm really impressed by it. You've picked a good'un there. As I said I think apps for Android are getting better and there's more and more coming out all the time, maybe with my phone being a 'lower quality' the apps aren't looking as good.

Try mobiles.co.uk
Put in your handset and it will bring up the cheapest options, lots of contracts on there that come with gifts such as cash back or other stuff. They have some good deals, theink the HD was £32 but with 6 months free.

Well I've been told that I've got to put £40 towards for the HTC Desire from my network, but that my bills will be £15-£20 a month which sounds spot-on. Didn't say which version of the Desire but not too worried too be honest, have had mostly Ericsson Walkman phones the last few years so any smartphone will seem really advanced for me.

This. I wanted a Desire HD. Rang them up before my upgrade was due and after telling them I was thinking of leaving I got offered 18 months at £15 a month and £100 for the handset. Rang them up on upgrade day and they said they couldn't do that. Anyways I kicked up a stink and after half an hour of rejecting their new offers I told them it was my way or the highway.
I now have a Desire HD on an £15 18 month contract. I don't really ring anyone so minutes aren't an issue for me but I have unlimited texts and 1gb data. Think I even got them to take something off the price of the handset.
Lesson is be a and you get a better deal.

Still am. Been using both the HD and S.Since the upgrade to Gingerbread on the HD the battery life has improved. The HD is a lot bigger, great for games and movies, the S is a more conventional size. Both are very responsive and running Gingerbread o/s, so it's about choice i suppose, do you want a large phone or normal size.
Also the apps are more than adequate, lots of good ones, the Iphone may have more but Android not far behind.

| Just found out I can get an upgrade from Vodafone and tbh I'm getting a bit fed up with my BlackBerry Storm. It's a decent solid phone but is now showing it's age both coverage- and battery-wise.
According to the Vodafone website I can get a free HTC Sensation on the same plan as now. Should I? I see HTC phones are popular, but HTC/Android would be a whole new world to me. Mrs28 has an Iphone so I assume that it would be similar-ish to that? Main thing is does it have Angry Birds?
Grateful for any views.

It is nice. Form factor is the only let down.
I have the Samsung Nexus S. Fantabulous phone and screen and it's so utterly fantastic form factor wise. Far nicer than your square HTC devices.
