FTR, despite all my cynicism, I felt the need to doff my metaphorical cap in the direction of Mr Doyle. I thought the music section was flawless, the NHS element was excellent, if not a little misplaced (Up you, USA..), the historical element was brilliantly visualised and the creation of the O****** rings were nothing short of inspired.

The parade was to be as expected, but I felt the hill of flags added something unique to the ceremony.


McCartney on the other hand..... The only good thing I can think of was that it wasn't Sir Cliff.

Not so much the Mail and their agenda but personally i think the family of Kane Gorny are right to be angry by it, as they feel let down by them.

They've closed the comments and hidden the six already made. I think they might have already taken an absolute battering over that piece.

I'm not surprised, its probably as close to outright racism that an editor thought they could get without being prosecuted - you can only assume what the original drafts must have been like.

Granted and i agree with that, there are plenty of actual quotes they could have actually used.

The thing is some people seem to think all doctors and nurses are angels and that criticising them is so form of crime, i'm proud of the NHS but then i've never been on the negative side of them, my wife, a former NHS worker, has a rather reserved view of them due to personal circumstances, and has an extremely negative view of the MaCmillan nurses, who she doesn't regard as the saints the general population like to make them out as, after hearing what happened to her mother it does make me weary.
Not liking the NHS is a fact for quite a few people.

The article in hand though is generally drawn on the legally acceptable limit of the racist line, the lazy journalism aside, it's a needless hate filled piece of crap, but we live in a land of free speech and it's better to air it and debate than ban and punish.

Getting back to the ceremony, If you watch it on the bbc iplayer the section between 11 and 25 minutes about the industrial revolution is absolutely superb. I especially loved the music. Think its called And i will kiss by Underworld.
