Whoops, it's already started.

What I've noticed with the Ghibli films is they've been nowhere near as good since Disney bought them out and their films seem to be more aimed towards the American market. Spirited Away was probably the last really great one they made and became the first Japanese film to win an Oscar. Tales From Earthsea wasn't bad but not in the same league as earlier ones like Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and my personal favourite Porco Rosso.

I quite enjoyed [iFour Lions[/i the other night on film 4 .

I love both [iSpirited Away[/i and [iHowl's Moving Castle[/i. My teenage daughter likes HMC so much she has the books, soundtrack, desktop wallpaper - you name it.

I'm a big fan of the Ghibli films. I've got Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky on DVD. I've got one of the earlier ones, Castle of Cagliostro, on my laptop as well which I've seen before, but been meaning to watch again.

Gareth Edwards' [iMonsters[/i is on Film4 tonight at 9pm. One more for the Linklater crowd than the JJ Abrams one.

I really enjoyed Monsters, even more so after I watched the extras on the DVD showing how the film was made, particularly Edwards doing his own special effects on his laptop.

Requiem is one of my all time favourites. Again I have the DVD and the extras include a full length documentary about Hubert Selby Junior, the writer of Requiem and Last Exit to Brooklyn, which also makes you see both films in a different light. Selby had a cameo in both films.

Should also say that the International Womens' Film Festival takes place in St John's as I was pricing up which film festivals I could afford to go to that may be within my price range. Not interesting, just coincidental.
