| Excellent interview as usual. I admit I was puzzled as to his decision but the difference between individual performance and a team performance is very important.

| It's a good excuse. But had it been the other way round Tomkins an organiser and Myler a broken field runner and backup merchant, he would still have picked Myler.

100% correct.
I don't know where he gets this from anyway, Tomkins ran the show against Wales and he turned Wigans season around.
However surely Sinfield and Mcguire should be organising the team, surely he is not picking a young very inexperienced player to direct the team around the field at international level. Its an excuse, McGuire will be organising, Myler will be doing what he is told, I am sure he will do well.

| How many games has Tomkins played at scrum-half this year? Surely if Wiigan fans have a gripe it should be with the selection of McGuire instead of Tomkins.

In the modern game there is no 6 or 7. The only difference is who puts the ball in the scrum. The halves will be split left and right most of the time.

Recent example was the loss of Wallace from the Broncos and Lockyer filling in at 7 was completely lost.
If they generally split left and right which of Myler and McGuire are which and which side does Tomkins play? Seem to remember tOmkins playing on Wigan's right when King ran his hat-trick through him whilst McGuire also lines up on teh right for Leeds.
So following your own logic it is McGuire and Tomkins competing for that right-side slot. Which leads to teh question why have you been on here moaning about Myler playing for the last few days?

| Quote England coach Tony Smith: "Choosing between Myler and Tomkins was tough"
Richie Myler and Danny McGuire are England's half backs for the opening Gillette Four Nations match against France. Kyle Eastmond is on the bench but there's no place for Sam Tomkins. Not yet anyway. England coach Tony Smith talks sixes and sevens with Chris Irvine on the Blog.
"It was a tough call on Sam Tomkins. I can tell you it was real tough between Tomkins and Richard Myler [at scrum half.
We leaned towards Richard playing because maybe he's a little better at guiding the team around, as well as his individual stuff, whereas Sam's terrific with his individual play and he's still developing his ability to boss a team around.
"We needed somebody to steer this big ship around. But I haven't nailed my colours to Richard Myler's mast. It was a tough call and he needs to produce, otherwise Sam will got a nod at some stage. The same goes for Danny McGuire [at stand-off. Danny needs to play well, because I'd have no qualms about throwing in two boys [against Australia and/or New Zealand, if we felt that was necessary.
"We've actually got some competition at half back for a change. You can throw Kyle Eastmond [who starts on the interchange bench against France into the mix . I've have no qualms about throwing him in either, because I know he's going to take on the opposition. They all need to produce. If they do, they're fine. If they don't, we've got some options.
"I'd like this team to do well this year and I think it's got the ability to do that. But some of it is about getting ready for the future as well. We'll be exposing our young people to some very good teams, so they'll know what level they'll have to raise themselves to.
"Hopefully, they'll be strong and experienced enough to have a successful series this year. But no matter what, these boys will be better for the experience.
"Some of these young people would probably have been picked for the World Cup last year had they been fit and healthy. We feel we've enough experience on the squad to take care of some of these young blokes. If we were really young across the whole team, I'd be nervous about throwing some of these boys in, but with such an experienced pack, I feel quite comfortable.
"It's not like some of these young players haven't played in some big games. They're going to come up against some terrific players and they may learn some lessons, but we've got to cope with that. It will do them good for now and it will certainly prepare them well for the future, too.
"I'll be happy this series if the players can come off and say they've played well. If won well with a good performance, great. If we haven't won but they've put in the effort and the opposition have played better, that's what sport's about. If they try their hardest, that's all I can ask of them."
'"
He makes no mention of Myler coming to Warrington.

Your lack of knowledge us brilliant. A half back should be able to play either side of the field. Myler has not yet proved he can do this at the top level.

Correct.
It still doesn't add up
Young player of the year
He is in the dream team
Turned Wigans season around
He scored 3 tries in his first international a week before the 4 nations
He got 3 assists in his first international a week before the 4 nations
He has been playing for the last few months unlike Myler
He is the form player in the squad
He has much more experience than Myler including 2 semi finals, big derby matches and playing infront crowds of 20,000 +
Someone give me a list representing Myler which rivals that?
I can't wait now to see if Smith plays Tomkins against Aus and NZ and then see the wire fans take the p**s if we lose, not recognising the difference between the opposition

| i find it amazing how 'i'll give you a game for England' was such a deal breaker in Mylers transfer and how little Smith thinks of England (and his salary from the RFL) that he'd throw someone who isn't worthy of an England place into the pivotal No. 7 shirt!
that's unless there's a small possibility that all the Myler/Smith bashers don't actually know more about the England game plan and personnel than the National coach!!
hmmm?!?

Also Myler is the go to man for Salford in attack he is the main player attacking for them so he will obviously get more assists. Just watch a Salford game he has played in, other than the ones v Wigan where he hid like Leon Pryce and watch how much the ball goes through him.
His defence is not good enough for international level, it will be shown if he plays against Aus and NZ.

They are on the pitch to create play break the line and create moves. The assist is only the player that plays the pass or kick before the try so if, for example, tomkins kicked to the corner carmont knocks it back to Richards and he scored then Carmont gets the assist.
These are not the correct statistics to compare two Halves. But the fact that you omitted all the other stats shows me that deep down you already know this.
Also remember that Man of Steel and Young Player of the Year are picked by other players and they picked Tomkins for YPOTY. This shows that not only do many fans believe that tomkins is a better player so do the other players. The dream team shows that the RFL think Tomkins is better too.
Plus before you think that this is simply Wigan fan bias;
I would also play Eastmond over Myler as he has also been a better player, in my opinion, than Myler. He has also played more and therefore has more match practice this season. I expect you'll come up with more rubbish figures to show why Eastmond isn't better than Myler but seriously any level headed Warrington fan will agree that Myler has been picked because Smith is coach of both teams. Just like how he picked lots of Leeds players last year...

| IMO Smith is doing Myler a disservice if he picks him against Aus or NZ in an international. He hasn't yet played a big game in his life.
I think it's 12 months too early to even consider him for a starting spot.
