He pretty much goes over old ground with it all though. The location is and always will be the obstacle to a shared stadium.

| Unfortunately the problems are all emotive problems, without being a real technical problem in my opinion.
Does it matter if the joint stadium is on one side or other of a perceived border? If you live in Normanton or Altofts then you are still closer to Cas than Belle Vue anyway...and vica versa
Though of course I would vote for it being in Wakefield.
My Cas fan friend (everyone should have one really, it's a charity thing) says he would worry about the rugby authorities making us merge. There is no real evidence to base this on apart from the fact that it has been mentioned in the past and no one at either club would like it. But there must be ways of safeguarding against that.
It's not like Belle Vue is drapped in Red White and Blue, but design of stadium would be important......but to be honest, I'd rather be in comfortable stadium that we'd had to settle on green seats to stay neutral than have a red white and blue dump site.
Just my opinion but getting a new stadium is more important than keeping a relatively invisible identity. The fans will make the new stadium Belle Vue, no matter where it is.

At the moment the two proposals are two junctions apart on the M62.....surely a joint location could be found somwhere close....junction 31?!

Agree. In the present economic climate, spending £m's on two stadiums is silly and probably a non-starter. IMHO the only way both clubs will be in SL after 2011 is to have a joint ground......with green seats, or red & blue one side/end and orange and black the other

| I really do feel its time to get a grip here. We BOTH need a new home or we will not get a franchise. In an ideal world we would both like new stadia but the harsh reality is it will cost a significant amount of money. I for one would like to see Both clubs survive in the top flight and if that means sharing a ground, then so be it.
I feel the site Wakey have proposed would be fair as it is easy for both sets of supporters to get to, so it makes more sence for both clubs to pull together and save their futures by combining their resources and have a better stadium than if we both went alone.

| Makes sense to share a stadium but I seem to recall some time ago that this was discussed and whilst we and Wakefield MDC were happy to go with a joint stadium Castleford were adamant that they wanted their own ground.
We appear to have three choices:
1. Ground share at Glasshoughton
2. Ground share at Stanley
3. Go our own ways and hope we both or one of us gets a stadium.
I think 3 is unlikely as funding for 2 stadiums is going to be difficult to obtain as we both will be chasing the same sources of funding such as Sport England, Yorkshire Forward, Wakefield MDC etc.
Both Glasshoughton and Stanley are unpalatable to both parties but to me (I would say that wouldn't I) whilst Glasshoughton has a planning consent Stanley should be less unpalatable to Castleford than Glasshougton is to us.
I can't remember the exact distances but the Newmarket site is pretty much eqi-distant from the centre of both Wakefield and Castleford so should satisfy the both of us.
A joint stadium at Newmarket would be deliverable in my opinion.

Why's that? Stanley is within Wakey borders, Glasshoughton is within both Wakey and Castleford borders...
Both have great transport links, so there's barely any difference there.
Not withstanding that Glasshoughton is further down the red tape line...

| People often throw up is the Milan clubs to justify a shared stadium but the weakness in that argument is that both Milan clubs represent Milan where as Wakefield and Castleford represent varying parts of the district (approx. the East and the West)
Normanton would be the only viable location for the stadium and if no real construction has begun at either site within the next year to 18 months then perhaps both clubs need to look at that prospect very seriously. I wouldn’t be happy about it but then I am only one.

One also has the potential to represent the whole district whereas the other doesn't. This goes a long way to explaining why one is far less willing to entertain the idea of sharing or in any way bringing the two clubs closer together than the other is.

| The guy is way out of date with the facts. Stanley is going to be the site of a stadium which Wakefield trinity have agreed to play at. They will not have ownership of the stadium and other clubs within the WMDC will have the right to play there. The site is 3.1 miles from wakey city centre and 3.3 miles from Cas town centre. Cas now know their stadium is very unlikely to happen and they have had a formal invitation to play at Stanley.
So far they have refused point blank to even consider a share. Wakefield Trinity,WMDC,Sport England and all the rest Ledger mentions can say what they want to Cas but it will not make any difference as they refuse to listen. Ledger is right a shared stadium would make economic sense and Stanley is an ideal neutral location but when you have a club like Cas common sense and practicality are never considered.

I bet they fear they will lose their name and swallowed up in a merger, that will be for for their reluctance in sharing the stadium

Stanley is within Wakey borders, Glasshougton is within both Wakey and Castleford borders - what do you mean ?
Both Stanley and Glasshoughton are within Wakefield MDC. As Prince Buster has said Stanley is 3.3 and 3.6 miles respectively from Wakefield and Castleford whereas Glasshoughton if far closer to Castleford than Wakefield.
Another issue is that Stanley is NOT Wakefield Trinity's Stadium it is a Stadium that will be owned by a Community Trust and hence a true Community Stadium that Wakefield will play in as tenants. Castleford on the other hand wish to own the Stadium themselves and believe it will be a Community Stadium because it will incorporate a few community facilities. It still will be a PRIVATE facility which makes it difficult for public funders to invest.
It would appear that the chances of a Community Stadium at Stanley appear to be promising so its up to Castleford to either come in on the project or go it alone and try to find the funding themselves - the choice is theirs.

Why have they just agreed a deal with an architect then?
Building will start between November and Jan, and from then will take roughly 10 months to build.
Yeah it's not practical having a stadium in the town of the club, generating income for the club, community and council, nope not practical at all

| This John Ledger character can go on all he wants about what he thinks makes sense. He is ok making these proposals but his article misses the main point.
Where will the ground be???
He can't answer the most important question of his statement which makes his article flawed.
