We have 2 "overseas" spaces available on the non fed trained list due to Galea, Dobson and Webster been removed from one of the lists due to residency. Im assuming this means we can sign 2 players with dispensations (Paea and McDonnell)

If it is due to residency, it must be the quota list - plus Galea and Webster have been off non-fed for years.

But I don't see how that frees up any usable space - indeed this sort of dodge was what the non-fed rule was meant to prevent.

Non-fed is currently: Dobson (unless he's done a Heremaia - had the 3 you mentioned definately been removed from [ithe same[/i list?), Green, Clinton, Taulapapa.
Paea would make 5. MacDonnell 6. Unless Dobson is off or Clinton leaves (which now seems less likely). Dobson being off would tally with the 2 spaces available.
It's a mess. For me, scrap the quota rule - it's not doing anything very useful anymore and having two rules is confusing for a lot of fans. Then have a non-fed rule with no exemptions for anybody - which slightly counter-intuitively, but very necessarily includes British players. Or if that is too perverse, bin it all except the club-trained rule.

Good news all round then.

If i heard correctly on tuesday evening, Mike Smith stated that Galea, Webster and Dobson are now non-fed but no longer quota. So does that leave us with..?

Quota:- Clinton, Green.
Non-Fed:- Webster, Galea, Dobson, Paea, Taulapapa.


With Lovegrove, O'Hara and Withers not counting.


So we can sign 1 more non-fed player as things stand. Or 2 non -fed players/1 quota player if Taulapapa leaves?

I think MS must have misspoke - tbf, it is confusing. Galea and Webster have been off non-fed for 2 or 3 years (the 2008 exemptions). My best [uguess[/u at the moment is that Dobson has come off non-fed, in an Aaron Heremaia stylee. Or possibly there has been wider relaxation - wasn't Phelps also rumoured to be off?

Yes i know. I was using Mike Smiths method of counting quota places as 2 slots and non-fed as 1 slot. Thus coming up with 9 places used out of a possible 10.
I'm gunna be honest, i dont think he has a clue. I wouldnt use it as a stick to beat him with though because clearly i havnt either.

Tbf, he has access to information we don't. And it's his job. I really hope [uif he is involved in signing players[/u he does understand it - even if he, understandably, finds it difficult to articulate. Especially after the Mason imbroglio.

Then if we add Mcdonnall into the non-feds we are full.

Just watched the forum on Hull KR TV and Mike Smith clearly does know what is going on, so fair play and an apology to him.

Put simply, the news is that Dobson is off non-fed. Presumably another re-interpretation - players that had been here [ibefore[/i Feb 2008 get off, even they weren't here [iin[/i Feb 2008. See also Hull FC's new hooker.

Quota - Clinton, Green, Galea, Webster, Dobson.

Non-fed - Clinton, Green, Paea, Taulapapa ?, 1 free space.

The speculation seems to be that Taulapapa won't be joining Rovers after all, making space for Shannon McDonnell and Constantine Mika.

Presumably, he would become non-federation (trained outside of the federation) and then exempt after 5 years.

It's 8 with McDonnell I think, Withers doesn't count as he was signed from Crusaders.
With Green and Clinton counting on both lists that's our 10.

Why are you not counting Lovegrove and O'hara?
