Paull. Interesting, I bet my Mum taught you maths.

Having a jolly good weekend I am. Had a yummy cheese curry in Bengal Lounge last night, followed by a few ciders in Pave, saw a drunken girl try to go to sleep on the floor outside of Linnet & Lark whilst waiting for a taxi, quite entertaining really.
Just got back from Veterans day at East Park, was loads going on, some of it was quite interesting. Now Mr Baldhead is snoozing on the sofa, the tiddlypeeps are playing army vampires with the little toads next door & I'm watching the last hour of Goodbye Mr Chips. Nice.

Same here had a great weekend loads of booze just cracking open the wine, barby is on got a week at work then two weeks of whoop Whoop

Why would anyone want to move to Paull?

15 mins from the town centre even in rush hour and our budget got us a larger house with 3x the garden than Hedon had to offer.

I like Paull, always have. It's a bit Royston Vasey but I could live there. We left Hedon after 15 years then in 2000 and haven't looked back. Still have friends and family there so visit often but it doesn't seem the happy place it once was.

You won't admit it, but I bet you've taken a walk to watch the P&O ferries leave!

The ship builders are knocking out a tug a year, they're interesting to see come together and end with most of the village on the bank as it sets off on it's first [ivoyage[/i if you can call it that.

Festives are fun with a sleigh that does the rounds collecting for the church, annual soap box race and a scarecrow competitions. The school has good grades too.

I'm fond of Paull. As kids we were sometimes treated to a "drive out" there for a drink and a packet of crisps. In reality, this meant me and my brother sucking Coca Cola from a proper bottle through a soggy paper straw whilst sitting under a Coca Cola umbrella outside the Royal Oak while my boat-obsessed dad watched the Humber through his binoculars. We usually froze half to death.

More recently I've read a fascinating book which suggests that one of the greatest ever artists, Rembrandt, spent his final months in Paull. Forced to flee Amsterdam and his blood-hungry creditors, the story goes that he stowed away on a ship destined for Hull, but got chucked off while the ship was in the estuary somewhere near Sunk Island. Desititute, in return for painting the portrait of the Lady of the local estate, he was given his keep in the mansion house.

The evidence for the theory lies in the journals of another artist who reports he met Rembrandt in York while the latter was there purchasing paints and equipment, Hull not being the most abundant source of such supplies.

I'm tinkering with the idea of doing one of these Ghost Vigils at Paull Fort. Would you recommend it, dum-dum?

If that is your church, it looks mighty fine and is sure to have an image of "The Last Supper" somewhere within, be it carving, painting, stained glass or sculpture. I collect pictures of the Last Supper. Please would you take a photo of the one in your church and post it for me to see?

I'd also appreciate any info on Fort Paull please.

Fort Paull is a great, some fantastic car shows go there. The ghost nights, althougH I haven't been, a friend of mine goes all the time and prefers the Paull one to the Whitby one. Dates and times are on most haunted's website, I'll post some links when I'm home.
