I've heard that when they started digging out the foundations they discovered that it needing piling. This requires further planning permission which they are waiting for and will cost an extra 200,000. Can anyone else confirm this?

Piling was always going to happen IMHO.
I very much doubt they didn't expect it.

No digging has been done to find that piling would be needed, piling was always going to be needed on a structure this size.

The boring bit has to be done in order to fill the shafts with the piles. Obviously. I was asking if this part of the works is underway, not whether exploratory probing had taken place. It being fairly obvious that the land would have been surveyed before any plans were chalked. Em, surely?
