| Quote ="Jake the Peg"Having seen both play, IMO Abdul is the much better player but is considerably younger so will make more errors. In all the games I've seen ellis play I've never once thought he looked like even a half decent SL scrum half/stand off. I think championship is his level.
One thing's for certain, if they're your halves come play off time then you'll struggle to score against SL defences.'"
I am not sure if abdull is better, Ellis is a good player no doubt. Abdul's just playing better right now, but has had more lows then Ellis this season. Very consistent is Mr Ellis.
I wouldn't say its for certain either. Considering you have widnes conceding for fun at home, Hudds don't look too strong and concede a fair amount. We scored a fair amount of points in SL with marsh and blair in the halves, this partnership is a lot better.
I do wish people would stop telling us how "Super" super league is. The standard of SL in general is not good at all, the jump from top end of championship to bottom isn't massive. We are not going to be playing the Wigan's, FC's or Cas for the chance to get promoted the bottom end teams are not a million miles away in which everyone is making out ( not just you Jake, heard plenty of it in the East Stand on Sunday after about 5 minutes of play) Belief and confidence play a major part in results, listened to all the experts on here we are already doomed. Madness

I agree about Dixon for all his mistakes at Wembley he never stopped wanting the ball

I agree with every word of this post, except the last 12. Very unfair observation on the evidence of the other posts in this thread.
I aren't saying we are doomed come the Middle 8s, nor do I think others are saying that imo, although that is my interpretation and I do not speak for them.
The consensus as I read it is we are doomed if we play like we did in the 1st half yesterday, we are doomed if we don't play smarter in the final 20, we are doomed if we keep turning the ball over and we are doomed unless we strengthen in some areas like the forwards as planned during the course of the season and FWIW we are certainly doomed if we play like Kieran Dixon did in his abject Wembley Horror Show, whether trying or not.
It's difficult to benchmark fans' expectations at this stage of the season. Latterly, we always knew we were struggling to compete in SL in the post Morgan era. The problem is that this is a season of definitively stated objectives and rebuild. That builds pressure but we know optimum playing performances in this league will take time. That said, game basics, enthusiasm and intensity are now a minimum requirement but yesterday we went into reverse on these in the first half and got a lucky break in the 2nd that got us back to parity and visibly lifted us at a time when we were trying too hard to force the wrong plays. As Sheens said, it was an ugly win.
Bottom line is 7 out of 7 is a good achievement. April should be a bit more exciting and a better test for our new team on all levels. I am confident that our performance levels will go up another gear in the next month. If they don't you can expect the team to keep getting stick from the East Stand, North Stand, Well and West Stand as well as on here.

| I think the biggest issue with Abdul is that he's following some very classy 6''s at Rovers. Kelly, Burns, Green. Not an easy list to live upto.
We have to accept he is still young, not fully developed as a player yet, and now under the microscope.
With time and support he could become a very good player, the question is do we have time (1 season) to wait for this.
Or should we use him until we can find a suitable replacement to get us through the 8''s and beyond ? And is this also true of Ellis ?

| I apologise, my lamenting of people on this board wasn't aimed at KR fans but fans of other teams who don't really know the ins and outs of how we perform, other teams performance and have a less then general insight but know all the answers. I can accept that wasn't clear though.
I do think there is a general lack of patience within our following though, as mentioned with moans from the east stand on Sunday after 5 minutes of play. I'm sure the people with more knowledge then us can see where improvements need to be made, I.e the coaches.
For me, I'd be moving Abdul to 13, try and bring in a running style 6. Probably not a great deal of them hanging about mind. I think we also need 1 more prop (Clarkson is steady, but we have plenty of them) and a great finisher on the wing.
Go with our first choice 17 right now though we wouldn't be a million miles away, especially in one off games

He is and has done. He's good at finding a hole too and then off loading to a runner on the shoulder, trouble we have is the lack of back up runners when we hit the hole.
Abdul's biggest negative is that he doesn't have a great deal of pace hence the 13 comments that'll always be leveled at him.

| When Abdul does manage to break a defensive line he tends to turn the ball inside more than not.
Don't know if this is a team strategy but the outside backs do see very little ball, unless in the final 20.
We seem to play with a mobile lightweight pack that carry the ball more, so no line break second rows does make it more difficult for him to put people through any gaps.
Would just like to see our and wings given the ball more and earlier.

He is quick off the mark, but not over long distances, that wouldn't matter if you have some back up players with pace.
The problem is, Ellis is a simalar style, how has Abdul's kicking been, as apart from the high bomb, it hasn't been great whilst at Hull.
I think he will end up at 13.

Our game plan has been to play the aussie way, a lot of play around the ruck and try and do them with quick plays and tiring the opposition, this means (as has been said) our edges don't see the ball too early in sets. To be fair Quinlan was benefiting from playing on the shoulder of Abdul and Lunt.
Ellis is definitely playing a more 7 role to Abduls 6 though and being busy around the ruck and taking on the goal line plays more, Abdul near the line is far more likely to just go himself.
His kicking has been ok, there seems to be an emphasis on kicking for field position which he seems good at, his bombs have been a bit tame to be honest, so have Ellis' in that respect, Bobby Blair has the ability to put some great bombs up but hasn't been used for this this year. His short kicking isn't generally great though, Ellis is far better at this.

That's a good critique on the Hull KR kicking game, Barham. Blair is the high bomb man, Ellis the short kicking game man and goalkicker and Abdull the long positional kicker and penalty touch finder.
I like Abdulls passing, switch plays and eye for a gap in the defensive line. However, he has got to eradicate this white line fever obsession at every opportunity and pass when it's the better option. I reckon he's bombed a dozen or so try scoring opps this season due to sheer selfishness and trying to go himself. Sheens has got to get in his ear and have a word with him about this and while he's at it he can include Minns as well.

TBH I don't want fracking, we don't need a dash for shale gas, no matter what they say it is a direct threat to Yorkshire's many aquifers. Having said that I also don't want to see Swampie et al claiming their rights for peaceful protest under the banner of NGOs with donation buttons at the ready. I will protest by objecting to planning applications and by disseminating information and awareness on the impacts of fracking. One thing for sure I won't be joining the great unwashed, I did that at Greenham Common, it didn't work back then and certainly won't work today.

I am not convinced that the environmental damage expectations to the local aquifers of fracking at KM8 have been proven at this site at this point in time until the test frack has been performed and it's results and outcomes are known. Similar naysayers have been banging on about the doomed expansion of the Boultby Potash mine near Whitby, claiming such mining is similarly dangerous. Just do it, test it, report on it, control it and if without issue, just crack on with it.
We've become a nation of namby pamby can't doers, obsessed with out of date technologies and a lack of infrastructure investment and a zen like obsession to health and safety. Those that protest and object to this ain't forward thinking captains of industry and wealth creators that's for sure.

Don't particularly like how they carry on but they are at least bothered about the future of the environment and the well being of folks.....but don't let that get in the way of a short term profit or dividend eh.
Anyway the rugby. Abdul looks decent. Runs and tackles like a forward...kicks like one too unfortunately. Decent passing game. Much the better of the halves. Not too many errors. Ellis is average. Chisholm played him off the park....twice. Lunt is our best player by a distance. Scruton, the centres look good. Seem to be progressing ok. It's only 7 games in so lots of improvement to come.
