Whilst I'm not saying defence isn't important, aren't wingers typically judged on how many tries they score and their attacking threat? In that respect then Fox has proven over the season he has that ability and is a good finisher.

But are we now at a point where wingers are picked soley for their defensive game? Wingers are meant to be the try scorers, It just feels a bit negative picking somebody purely cos their defence is great. What about their go forward?

no we need them to be all round players. good defence, good under the high ball, good tacking the ball out, good support play, good pace, and a good sense of were the try line is.

any deficiency and sides as good as australia and new zealand will take full advantage.

Wingers help the team hell of alot getting out of there own 20 with quick runs from dummy half, something Briscoe is arguably second to none at in SL. Obviously wingers have still got to be defensively sound ie tackling, defusing bombs. As already stated the game has come on hell of alot from when Offiah was playing the game just scoring tries. Wingers need more than a good try scoring ratio to their game.

So we are now comparing Fox to Offia, not even close.

Since Offia there have been far, far better wingers than Fox, off the top of my head I could name 20, who have scored better trys and where betetr players than Fox.

Personally I think it's a sad state of affairs looking at the current state of our backs for England, on paper we have the worst backs I have ever seen for England.

Agreed. This is the reason why Fox was Rovers top metre maker in 2009. I have not seen a better scooter from DH all season. However, he is discouraged from doing this for England, as is T Briscoe. Tony Smith obviously doesn't like his wingers doing this to the same extent as Justin Morgan.

Think you need to re visit the England World Cup team of 2000 before making statements like that!

In attack and speed ,maybe not, but there have been 100's of wingers since Offiah who can defend better than he ever could and had a bit of bravery about them. The two incidents I remember with him are the one in the Ashes test where he jumped into touch rather than tackle and the incident on Gladiators when he jumped off that platform before being hit with the stick.

He once broke clear in a game against us and slowed down just before the line and taunted the chasers to catch him, he $hit himself when one of our forwards confronted him and let his mates get in between.
