If McDonnell is on anything like £130K then us getting rid of him was a great bit of business. He had ok moments but far too often he played like an NFL wide reciever trying to save minutes by running out of play and was certainly nothing great, at £75K then we should have looked to keep him.

I agree the Taylor thing should have been kept out of the press, can't blame the lad for having his head turned by the likes of Wigan, rather get some cash for him then him have an unsettled season and go for nothing.

I tend to overestimate NH's Machiavellian-ness, but when something negative happens fan anger aimed elsewhere trumps despondency. I do hope the deal is signed and sealed though.
From Taylor's POV, not wanting negotiate [uyet[/u is legitimate; he might want to show he is worth even more with improved performances as he's still only 21. But with the ooc open season being brought forward to April (?), that would have required a lot of trust and given that relations with his agent are strained I'm glad we didn't.
Matty Russell looked promising at Hull and I suspect he'd be going to GCT's reserve grade, initially? So we might be a better option. On the other hand he and Sheriff would be filling a very similar niche, assuming we retain LS.

Makes perfect sense for us to go to the press. Let all and sundry know he's available to highest bidder and possibly spark up a bit of additional interest. Of course the likelihood is, everyone in RL will probably know this already, but it does no harm - in terms of trying to get the best possible deal out there for HKR. Same time, it cuts all bridges with Taylor – but reading the Hudgell article suggests that, that ship has sailed in any event.

b) boost their 10k season ticket aspirations.

NH's comment suggest (perhaps) the 'interesting' situation Galea faced. If Hull made him an offer but said we need to know ASAP, because we've got other options, then he needs an offer from Rovers quickly or he might be left with nowhere to go. We're, understandably, in less of a rush so he ends up shaking on a deal there.
His dilemma then is to face up the negative reaction this is likely provoke among some HKR supporters (especially as he's our captain), or delay or present it as a last minute change of heart. If that is what has happened, I can't really blame him - and perhaps we should have let the sleeping dog lie. Then again, perhaps he should have been a tad more understanding about his snub at the awards night.

If you get three quarters of the way into the season having failed to prepare a negotiation strategy with your OOC captain and loyal servant of 5 years, that's just shatpank management. As is deflecting blame onto players seeking some sort of security, their agents, and interested clubs.

That's actually pretty good media management, IMO.

Especially regarding agents, who are naturally unsympathetic characters, and if the interested club is a traditional rival already attracting criticism for tapping up players.
