| If, and it might be a big if, Webbo gets us into the super 8's with the season and injuries we have had it would be very difficult to justify Steve mc and his wage bill to move us on to 'the next level' and I for one would be happy to let Webbo have a full year. The alternative scenario, is if the worst comes to the worst and we end up in the championship, we might not be able to attract anybody better anyway.

| Quote ="deslawson"I posted my thoughts on mcnamara on the kelly thread which is probably why this new thread has been created. The guy is a serial failure at bradford with england and his influence seems to be working in oz with the rabbitohs in danger of missing the playoff a regular occurence with mcnamara. He will no doubt be expensive, whereas our current coach webbo, who is rovers through and through and was my original choice before chester would be a cheaper and far better option.Webbo has improved us immensely and other than the oldham and cats home results, our performances and results have shown a marked improvement. He is also well liked and respected by the fans and also the players, hence kelly signing till the end of 2017.Please dont get mcnamara, the only worse choice out there would be agar,in fact i think it would be a photo finish between the pair of duds.'"
I'm not sure why his influence would put the rabbitohs in danger of missing the playoffs he is an assistant coach at Sydney Roosters.

I like the sound of that and if webster is not up to it then campesie might then be ready to coach if he wants to be a coach

| As Kelly has decided he is happy to activate his 3rd season I wonder if it's because he is happy with the incoming coach.

| IMO Rovers need a proven head coach - a minimum of five years experience.
We have tried the 'assistant coach' route and it hasn't worked.
I would go for McD if he is available or a coach with his 'stature' and 'presence'.
As for Stevie Mc, the way he systematically tore the Bulls apart cannot be overlooked, and also when he was in charge of England he seriously failed over Rangi Chase, and his obsession with NRL players with a hint of English blood was bordering on desperation IMO.

As the season has progressed, I have become a big fan of James Webster. I'm not easily pleased, but I value Webbo's articulate communication skills, his calm demeanour and his honesty. He has been dealt a brutal hand with injuries and a legacy thin squad lacking in quality in some areas. That said he has gone about his business with determination and resolve and never complained. Just got on with it.
I can see how he can get players on side and buying into his individual team roles and game plans. We are playing with smiles on our faces and he has the players in his corner.
To turn it into full on bromance, he needs to win 4 of the last 6 and make us more consistent. Mission impossible, perhaps. Failing that, keep us in SL after the middle 8s.
Not sure Mcnamara would be an upgrade on Webster tbh. I hope Webbo is in charge next year. I guarantee he will do a Radford.

| I couldn't care less ......Recruitment is the deciding factor in which a team will be successful or not.
A team comprising of the best players will always be more successful regardless of who the coach is ......Radford and McDermott are testament to that.

It's looked like the middle 8s for us since we [ilost[/i to Wakefield. Nowt to do with other results tbh - 11 points from 17 games is always going to leave you looking up at most of the league.
On the upside, a win tonight and we're chasing (relying on a slump from) any one of three teams. Lose and it really is a balance of holding on for 4 home games in the 8s and resting battered bodies for games that matter more.

I like this system of top 8s & middle 8s, it makes the teams still have something to play for, I would like to see wooden spoon winner go down though, that would be funny especially if the table stayed the way it is now.

Do you agree with your coaches view that the top 8 should have their points reset after round 23?
There are a growing number of critics of the current system. Only this afternoon did I read a blog about the growing gap between 4 & 5, and the one between 8 & 9 essentially rendering the competition sterile with over 3 months to go.
I can't see it lasting beyond 2017.

I don't know tbf, as I see finishing top should give you an advantage, the gap is very noticeable but that's due to recruiting for some clubs, you've had the spine of the team unavailable all season & that's what's done you in, we've had no injuries & made us contenders, Leeds have lost key personnel with transition going on with youth, cas,Widnes started like a house on fire,& both have lost consistency, it's been a strange season so far, who knows what can happen from now, & that's the exciting thing for me, no more are the days when you can look at fixtures & see an easy win.

I'd be fine with it. I doubt you'd see any different team in the top 4 this year if the points are reset.

Hopefully, Jake! .......Motu Tony has been your best recruitment so far ......The respect and influence he has within the rugby league world has brought fantastic players to your club and given your club such a depth of talent regarding your starting 17 and given you a depth of talent regarding your entire squad .......Whereas our "Motu Tony" (As in Peacock) brought us Clarkson as our major signing last year who is yet to break a tackle this year, and now we have just announced Scruton as a signing for next year, a prop who is just another workhorse and is the kind of average player that all the clubs pass among themselves to make up the numbers ......Minns is probably the only half decent signing Peacock has brought to the club so far, but, in the grand scheme of things, he is only as good as your Logan who is a reserve player within your team at best ......Hopefully our five year plan consists more of just signing championship players.
Would I swap Peacock for Tony? .....Damn right I would!!!!

Any all of your strength and conditioning team have ex leeds connections.....
From a layman's point of view, motu tony seems Hull FC centric whilst jamie peacock seems jamie peacock centric

Back in 2014, Hull were recruiting the likes of Colbon and Carvell, so I'm happy to give Peacock more time. Not that Hull's rubbish 2014 excuses our rubbish 2016.
Whether Peacock ends up being seen as determined or stubborn could come down to the bounce of a ball.
