Can't fault the board for a lack of thoroughness. I know too little about the reported candidates to be able to have any sort of preference - they all seem of a type. It's exciting though - we should know this week I assume.

tbh we know very little about most Aussie coach's, no one knew Maguire would do so well, or Tony Smith when he first came over did they. its gotta be seen as a gamble as they have NO experience of coaching a first team, you just have to hope the gamble pays off. IMO i think Gentle will do really well at Hull, hopefully whoever we bring in will do the same

| Seems to be very protracted, almost as if rovers had someone lined up when they moved morgan on, only for the deal to fall through at the 11th hour.

| Quote ="His Bobness"Peter Gentle ticks a few boxes so good luck to Hull.
Whether he can be a success at Hull I wouldn't know and neither do any Hull fans. And to be fair the same will apply to whoever gets the Rovers job.
Peter Sharp ticked a few boxes but his after match analysis made Richard Agar seem like Shakespeare. 'Aw we was a bag' o rubbish mate'.
Very inspirational.
Who knows what flaws will be revealed as we get to know Gentle and Wrigley/ Moore/ Cameron a bit more intimately.
But you've got to appoint someone and personally I prefer the way Rovers have gone about it.
Rovers have sought out as much professional advice as possible and from very respected figures still involved very very closely with the NRL. The selection process is quite meticulous even involving the kind of management assessment techniques used in industry. At the end of this each candidate will have no less than a half day interview in which to discuss not just first team matters but youth development, public relations, player discipline, sports science, etc etc.
For Hull it was 'who do you fancy Shaun?' 'Hmmmm...that Gentle fella seems to be in demand'.
In the end it is the subjective judgement of the HKR management team and it is the subjective judgement of Shaun McRae and they could both get it right or wrong but I believe Rovers have left no stone unturned whereas (just my opinion) McRae is someone who should have joined the SKY TV team because that is the only area he has seemed comfortable in for a number of years.
But I must say his new job does seem a very cushy number. I predict that if/when Gentle doesn't cut the mustard McRae will be the hero who sacks him. Good on yer Shaun wish you'd been around to sack Agar. Bit like Simms at Salford.'"
Interesting point. mcrae probably knows gentle, or at least knows of him and knows plenty of people who will know him and will have worked with him.
I'm sure hudge and his cronies will have looked up their candidates on wiki and phil lowe may have given a couple of his aussie mates from the 70's a call to see if they've heard of them.
I know who out of hudge and mcrae I'd trust with making recruitment decisions

They've conducted initial video interviews, requested 3-year plans, flown to Australia for face to face interviews, are even doing those psychobabble tests (I'm sceptical about those, but they're harmless if you don't put too much weight on them). Your defence of McCrae is fair enough, but then you've done a dump on your own argument.

| The head coach job Hull KR is a career wrecker, no coach has left the club in the recent past and gone onto better things, Morgan thought he'd walk into another top job but looks like he'll have to settle for an assistants role at best. The huge ego's at boardroom level means any prospective coach will be continually looking over his shoulder on matchdays for regular undermining of his position before and after the matches.
Quite why any half decent coach would want to go on a 24000 mile round trip to work under such conditions is beyond me. No doubt Hudge will get his right man, whether he's the right man for Hull KR though remains to be seen.

Sifting through this guff you could be right,I mean Morgan`s "You know" after every three words didn`t grate at all.
And as for Bomber saying something in favour of Gentle, you have to ask, what does Mc Crae know about R.L.? I mean,Gentle is only assistant coach to the Aussie team after all.
I like the idea of Rovers taking professional advice before making a move.Worked a treat in the Mason saga.

Not so sure that we will get the right man, our selection committee consisting of precisely zero minutes RL experience between them..
All very well doing psychometric testing and the like but who will be asking the "Rugby " questions..??
And after been interviewed by the Holy Trinity, the only likely attraction for any prospective coach will be the money on offer..
The Morgan situation had to be resolved but the modus operandi of Rovers since then with regards the new coach appointment and recruitment has been shocking..
And whoever gets the job it is going to be a sleeves up and graft job because we are looking a little short on quality for next season, it could indeed be a poisoned chalice if the natives get restless.., the best thing the new man could do would be to be straight with the fans from the off and forget the Morgan/Vella "we can get to Old Trafford" =#FF0000Na-AS..be honest and say its going to take two or three seasons to come right..
And yes Hutchie , Seibold is getting an interview, but i dont think even the Holy Trinity are that daft...

How do you work that one out? I was responding to someone who questioned an appointment made by mcrae (and presumably ratified by pearson) who is a long time first grade coach with extensive contacts throughout the world of RL, and suggesting that it would be worse than one made by 3 rovers fans, none of whom had ever played or coached at even a decent level to my knowledge.
Still, I'm sure those psychometric tests and all of that sports science knowledge will ensure they get the best man for the job

It was the suggestion that it was been done via wikipedia etc.
As for whether they are qualified to judge whether someone is qualified, intelligence and being a decent judge of character is the important thing. The highest standard I played at was Malet Lambert inter-form 7s. And I was cack.
Hypothetically, if it ever came down to it I'd trust my judgement over [umost[/u professional players when choosing a coach.

| I can't believe we're already into the playground "our coach is better than your coach" guff when:
a) Hull FC fans have yet to see how their coach performs
and
b) Hull KR fans don't yet know who the coach will be.
Hey, who am I kidding? Of course I believe it.

The wiki comment was obviously tongue in cheek but the point remains that mcrae will know more about the up and coming coaches in oz than 3 of rovers board members.

Yep, I agree McRae will know his stuff. And I took your point about Hudgell and his 'cronies' too seriously. But they've taken their time to find out what they need to know.
I think Pearson-McRae-Gentle have a good chance of making Hull much more successful.
I think we have cause for optimism too, if we get this appointment right - and I think they are going about it sensibly. It could all go to poop for either or both clubs - you never can tell. For now it looks promising.
