| Quote ="BiltonRobin"Just wondering if any of the Hull "fringe" players will be coming back to CP with us ?
Tim Sheens said on the radio last night that we could possibly be about to sign 2 props, one a "local lad" the other an Aussie.
He also said Shillington is about to retire so would not be one of them.'"
More hard nosed experience needed up front. We were a prop light before Tilse left anyway. Where's Scott Wheeldon these days?

Jesus wept, I hope not. That's well beyond justification even with a patronising 'beggars can't be choosers' argument.
First and most importantly we need better and more battle hardened players. Wheeldon, for example, would be a much better option, IMO.
Second and possibly incorrectly, I've a vague recollection that he's the nomark who used his man of steel vote 'humourously'. If it was him him, I'd much prefer to see him 'progress' in your under-23 set-up.

Well if you're going to be signing a "local lad" to play prop, it's not going to be Watts, Taylor, Green or Bowden. So from Hull's ranks that pretty much leaves Osbourne and Matongo. I'd suggest Wheeldon is a good shout, or maybe someone else from Hull who isn't currently plying there trade here. Although I'm struggling to think of names that fit that criteria just now.

Fair point.
He's played pretty much all his pro rugby in Hull though. An adopted local lad.

| Quote ="Mr. Zucchini Head"I've not actually heard Radfords comments, I've just been told about them, so I could be wrong, but I get the feeling you might be taking him out of context there.
The way I heard it was that he said Kelly doesn't really like training and is never going to set records in the gym, but put a rugby ball in his hands and he transforms. From pics I've seen of him he's actually looking in great shape.'"
It could be that Radford had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek when making these comments, and was just making soundbites for the radio.
But Kelly's lack of enthusiasm for fitness and conditioning must have come to his attention for him to even give it a passing mention.
For what it's worth, Albert's likely to come on for 30 minutes today, put the game out of reach, go back to the bench and put his slippers on.
Come 4 o'clock we will all be the wiser.

| Very pleasing result.both teams took out of it what they wanted.went with mixed group of mates and the fc orientated lads Not happy with amount of youngsters on pitch and getting served up same as Castleford game.couldnt fault the effort and for me Radford has bigger fish to fry so result can be spun to suit whatever agenda you like.Heffernan Quinlan Clark Oakes caught eye.Thought Litten tried hard and pleased for his grandad who is a great guy.lots of positives and touch wood no injuries

Delighted if we've come through without injuries. And no evidence that preseason so far has been anything like the last one, I assume. Which is nice. Looking forward to watching it back.
Obviously a very, very inexperienced Hull team, with just a smattering of older heads.

| I know it's hard to judge with the Hull side out and it being a friendly, but I thought you looked good, your pivots looked dangerous and worked well together (Kicking needs to be better though) and your defence was strong (Kelly aside I don't think we broke the line). Still early and a long way to go, but promising signs for Rovers with Sheens as boss.
Have to give Oakes a good run in this league.

| In the end a meaningless game, but at least the team is working well together. Can't really take much else from that as Hull didn't put out an overly strong side. That stated, that's 2 friendlies they've lost now isn't it?
Glad some of the new boys got on the score sheet. If nothing else, it'll also settle some nerves. The next 2 friendlies are likely to be a tougher prospect as the closer we get to the start of the proper season, they'll want to use their senior players.
And if nothing else, we might be able to say we had won all the derbies in 2017.

Hull havent lost a game we expected to win, theyve been clear that we dont expect to be at anywhere near full strength until the Salford game. Wouldn't be surprised if there's another Derby for Houghtons testemonial, have to wait and see.

Your squad depth does not seem to be good enough for a sustained attack on a top four place if injuries strike. I think you had 9 recognised first team players on the park today. Your average age was 22 to our 23 so blaming fielding young guns as some have done hardly holds water. Radford is disappointed at they way you capitulated in the last quarter.
Altogether not a good day for FC fielding a side that at least knew each other And was a second heavy defeat. A satisfactory one for KR as a first hit out with nine debutees. We should not not get carried away as I am sure we will meet harder challenges once the league fixtures start.

We will be fine, playing a few squad players is fine, but to play most of them at the same time and pretty much a reserve team the whole 2nd half is never going to work. I actually think we have just about the strongest squad in SL, just behind Wigan.
Today we were missing 11 of our starting side, and only 5 of those in would make our 17.
Judging us on that performance I think is more out of hope, good spin though Keith.

Or maybe the derby will be reserved for Cockaynes testimonial?

I take on board what you say about your squad as you obviously know more about it than I do. However a it must be some concern that the players of that age today performed so poorly as a team.
Naughton Michaels
Tuimavave Hadley ThompsonBowden Green Washbrook Played 221 competitive games between them for you in 2016 and Albert played 17 for us 238 appearances not bad for the reserves, that's actually more first grade games than our squad managed.

I don't think Hadley even played today, so take away his 50 or so, then I reckon one of your wingers alone has played that many games.
As said nothing to worry about for us, only Kelly played out of our big players. Last we beat Warrington at home with lots of players out as fringe players stepped in and performed, in with have an injury crisis and play a team like today I'll be worried, but that could be said about most teams in the league.
We won't be far off this season again.

Do your research Keith, Dave Hodgson has played nearly 350 games on his career, add in Lunt, Scruton and Ellis alone is 3 times more than played for Hull today.
