Assuming that Burns has been continuing to draw his wages, I would tell him that he has failed to exercise any get out clause, that he is still contracted for another year and that the club is unwilling to release him.

Maybe, just maybe if Saints or anyone else want to pay way over the odds then we could consider letting him go on the clubs terms....as long as we can get someone else of similar or better quality. Who knows maybe that is how the club feel too, I'm sure Neil Hudgell would not roll over and let Burns go for nothing.

With the influx of new backs (and others) I wonder if Burns will stay, knowing our strikeforce is improving.

Wrong question. Without him we have no capable halfbacks. Question should be 'Is getting 80k enough considering without him relegation will be a distinct possibility.

You're absolutaly right, 80k or even 180k is no good if you cant replace Burns with someone of the same quality and for less money, otherwise it could be counter productive and end up costing the club far more if it ends up in a relegation battle next season.

So we've lost our best 2 players who were both contracted for at least next year. I know theres all this can't blame them, we got the cash etc but for me it shows a lack of loyalty, or buying into a plan if there is one from the players. Are we underpaying? Thats hodgson, taylor, paea, burns, dobson? green all of whom where our better players at that time and all have just walked or been allowed to. How do you ever get consistency unless you want to be consistently average. Shows a lack of ambition from the club

Youve got to ask yourself why they want to leave. We should be on a par wages wise, so it just comes down to winning things or potential to do so. seemingly players buy into fc more than they do us.

As he has a current deal worth $550k (£300k) per year, I think it unlikely he will rock up on Preston Road anytime soon.

Simple solution, heavily backload his contract and we'll never have to pay it when we flog him part way through his deal
