It's a strange practice if it costs you a player you can fit under the cap.

If you have a average to good play maker and a truly world class player became available it would be a ridiculous stance to have.

It would be even worse if you had got your play maker for a bargin.

It's all speculation, but I wouldn't be at all surprised - that is 10% of the total cap. Much as I'd be envious of you signing L. Paea, if you're really paying that (rather than it just being paper talk) it is too much.
No wonder contracted players are putting in transfer requests - it must seem like they're missing out on a ooc gold-rush.

Everything on a deal has to be added to a clubs cap even bonuses otherwise if everything gets triggered (due to a stella season) your bonuses would take you over the cap.
I believe Saints have been stung by that trap before.

There's a live cap now so the club can't dish out contracts which could take them over the cap. Having said that, we all know that there are ways and means of paying players what you want. I doubt pearson wants to increase player spend at Hull so can't see us paying people outside the normal salary bill. Wouldn't be surprised if o'mealy were on £140k+ anyway so paea for a similar amount looks like good business to me. Hull are losing some big earners so have cash to play with. Was reported mckinnon was on £140k, plus o'mealy and manu, moa etc. and tehre should be plenty in the pot

I don't think we have any quota space, and you know how tetchy everyone gets with us when we start messing with that particular kettle of fish.

Ervan is a decent, old fashioned prop who does his share of hit ups, can off load well, and tackles well in the middle.

He came to the Knights from the Warriors on an incentive contract because he had missed most of the season before with a neck injury that looked like ending his career.

He is not a star, but he does a workman like job every week at prop.

Ervan has played nearly 150 NRL games and 1 test for NZ.

He was pretty lucky to get a test, because he isn't that standard, but he has been a good, honest NRL performer and is still at just about his best.
He is good for 90-100 metres per game and 15-20 tackles in 60 odd minutes. He does have a very good off load and a pretty fast play the ball because of his low centre of gravity. Not a big guy, but strong and chunky.
