I'd be dissapointed if I was a Hull fan and this was true. What do the club pay to the SMC every year if stuff like this is self financing when it comes around?

It's a mess, but only partly down to the RFL. IMO the various club chairmen haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over the years. Lots of short-sighted decisions made without regard to knock-on effects or long-term planning. Although that's common in sports management across the board TBH.

Ironically, a lot of these people running/funding clubs are very successful businessmen, but when it comes to sport they have business acumen 'brainfarts'. Wasn't it Alan Sugar who said buying a football club was the worst business decision he has ever made.

No he didn't...
Referring to Wigan, the part you allude to...
....They have a fantastic infrastructure, they probably have more support staff and backroom staff than they have players. They have conditioners, sports scientists, that earn more than THE head coach and 4 or 5 internationals as assistant coaches...
No, no mention of CS there.
Very poor to make things up, not classy from TF.

Thats my thoughts on it too , why pay a lease agreement and then have to pay for upkeep to be done , you wouldnt pay rent on a house and then have to Pay for a new boiler would you ? Unless of course its in the lease agreement (and therein lies the question)

Don't agree fully with your quote as Rovers lease Craven Park and we've happily built infastructure etc. Craven Park is much different though I guess in that we keep everything we make at Craven Park where at the KC The SMC take a percentage of everything. That is where I think it's rude for Hull FC to have to contribute.

Surely some of the cost will be down to the SMC, after all the two clubs don't get benefit from any neutral games or concerts, all of which cause wear and tear to the pitch.

Thanks Frankie, saved me the time of posting it. Not once did Neil mention Sandercock's pay. However, this ins't a surprise that Tarquin Fuego mentions something that wasn't actually true, he's got lots of form for being a blatant liar.

The problem you've got in trying to run a club as a business is that you're not just competing against other businesses, you're competing with organisations happy (or at least willing) to lose money to get on field success.
That is a big part of why Hull KR has not been able to 'wipe its face' or compete consistently towards the top end of the league. NH seems to have realised/decided that the only way we can get the type of success he wants is to extend the benefactor model.
A big (well, massive) push could perhaps see us be more sustainable in the long-ish term. Warrington fans claim that they could get by pretty well without Moran now. NH and RC are only able to fight the fires each year, to stop us burning down rather than putting the additional infrastructure in place to build us up. There's a fantastic opportunity for somebody to take us on, it just isn't a business opportunity. And it likely lapses in a few months.

spot on with that post, I have no love whatsoever for rovers, but would not like to see them go down we (fc) need the derbys, and so does the rugby league

| As an outsider I wonder how much of this decision from Mr Hudgell is down to the recent changes to the rules relating fees and Personal Injury claims?
I know that a lot of solicitors are very worried about the future due to ceilings placed on fees and a large firm which has built its business on personal injury may well soon feel the pinch.
Circumstances beyond his control?
Looking to focus on the longevity of his main earning capability?

The impression I am getting is 'Why should I fund HKR so they are solvent and safe when others can mismanage and instead of the rules being followed they will be twisted when it suits'

It's possible, but I think most likely it is mainly about what he says it is. He and Rob Crossland have taken the club as far (a fair old way) as they can and things need to change. He acknowledged his other commitments - family, business etc and I'm sure quite a few things contributed to it.
Without wishing speculate too much, I do wonder if delays with the North Stand have eaten into the budget for next year already, and perhaps made him feel he is absolved of any responsibility he might have felt to go around again for HCC. He talked a while back (maybe as much as two years ago, I forget), about seeing out this licence period, which would take him to 10 years in charge, which he regarded as plenty.
We've known it was coming, and we've hopefully got a good chance of a smooth transition, or at worst a soft landing.
