| We need to sign a captain, with no leader on the pitch we'll fail every year. Campese has to go, risk is far too great to go around again carrying a player who will be lucky to get through a match a season

| In previous posts I have mentioned two names for coach but I'm not doing so this time as I think it's more important to talk about what type of coach we have. Do we need a tactician, a disciplinarian or somebody to inspire the players. Looking at how poorly structured we are and how we give away cheap penalties (even when we have possession) I would go for a disciplinarian. As for strengthening the squad, lets forget it as the club cannot afford top quality players, that is why we are signing youngsters. So what TYPE of coach do you lot think Rovers need?

| rovers need a coach who will come in and put some structures in place, improve your team and develop the younger players. You need someone who can quietly go about his business without looking for excuses and who can inspire the players to achieve the best they possibly can.
Unfortunately, you're getting steve macnamara though

A charismatic optimist with a hidden but deep cynical streak. Able and willing to challenge JP, in a constructive way.
On the penalties, I think that is a failure to cope with better teams, more than a issue with temperament. With a few exceptions.

| We must give away more stupid penalties for interfering at the play of the ball than any other team and have done so for years. We need a coach that will stop the players putting their hand on the ball as they stand up, which most of them are guilty of (not Mulhern though, cos when he stands his arms are stretched out sideways cos he has been coached well).

| Unfortunately, Mulhern is absolutely rubbish at everything else, like defending and attacking.

Do you think JP would appoint someone who would ever question him?

Looking at how JP plys his management skills on Twitter, I'd doubt any coach will want challenge him. Seems he doesn't take criticism very well.

Dunno.
He should do. Ideas and plans are improved and refined when they're challenged, intelligently and constructively.
There's no value in antagonism between DoR and coach, but honesty and accountability are key. Got a bit corporate now, haven't I?
The fact we're going for an experienced coach is a positive sign. However, if it is McNamara his force of personality scale score of 1.2, is a concern. No offence Steve, btw, I'm only a 0.7 myself.

When you've known as much success as he has, at dominant club... Well, this was always going to be a different challenge.
And I wouldn't judge anybody off social media too much (though he should be smart enough to realise that others will).
In fairness to him, we the fans don't know the details of what is going on, and so we are by definition Ill-informed.
In fairness to us, we haven't been told much.
None of which would matter if we were winning. Let's hope we stay up, and we get to find out what the plan is, which coach we have lined up and what sort of team Rovers are going to try to be.

| It is a worry tho when someone in such a prominent position, doing a job that he is untried in, making gaffs by replying on social media of all places to the fans he's trying to get onside by being aggressive.

Apparently he wasn't being aggressive and anyone who read his tweets to be offering out a fan in the car park at cp at 8am this morning were wide of the mark. He just likes to do things face to face, which is probably difficult a lot of the time when you're 6 foot 5 or whatever he is.

| Only my thought but I don't think he is a proven coach. Yes he did well under Neil Henry and ok taking USA to finals. But left cas in a pickle before they got rid. I think again he is in the McNamara bracket maybe slightly better..

| Matterson's record with Cas (58 wins, 4 draws and 86 defeats according to wiki, if we trust that) doesn't look too bad, for a team that had to rebuild after relegation, and sell players from time to time. But in that promotion season of 2007 they won 17 of 18 league games and their play-off games, so his team's SL record then looks pretty poor.
On the plus side, he seems to be well thought of down under, and he is familiar with how things work over here. And looking more closely, after a difficult 2008, from 2009 to 2011 Cas won 76 league points from 81 SL regular round games - respectable.

| Matterson was a good coach for cas. Always had us in and around the top 8 bar our first seasons back in SL. Had us playing good expansive rugby , though we could never defend . The season after he left brought in Millward and I think more Cas fans appreciated matterson after a year with basil.

| Not sure any of those 3 candidates mentioned inspire much confidence. McNamara best option for me imo but with hudgell stating that fans will be pleasantly surprised with the plans in place I'm hoping for another candidate to emerge.

The best coaches already have jobs, anyone we get will be a gamble. Who would come to a bottom four super league club if they did not have to prove thier worth? Any of the three mentioned will do me. The best option for me is McNamara or stick with Webster. What we realy need is some grunt up the middle. Two big nasty props please.
