| cant believe you lot arent dissapointed about your chairman turning down a big money move from salford on this guy, i understand the bit like at least he wont be playing against us etc, but me personally from whats reported id rather have the £200k in my clubs bank than to allow the player to walk for free, maybe the chairman expected him to see out is contract or maybe dobson just never spoke to your chairman and put him in the bigger picture, would of been a nice transfer kitty for a cash struggling club !!!!!!!

Sorry folks I'm not trying to be negative towards your club, it's just why would he go somewhere to be 3rd choice? Seems theres more in this than him just wanting to play back in the NRL.

Can't see it tbh - or at least that wouldn't be plan A. I think he genuinely wants to give the NRL a real crack, while he still can. If it doesn't pan out, he's plenty of credit in the bank to get a gig back here for 2015 and beyond. Unless it goes badly wrong I don't see it happening next year. If it did, I assume we'd still be due a fee - otherwise a NRL release clause is really just a release clause.
If I was considering a move to Salford, there'd be something to be said for seeing how 2014 goes first - it could be spectacular in either direction. However well it goes, it won't have the same cachet as playing in the NRL - sadly for us all.
He held all the cards - if he'd wanted to go to Salford, we'd likely have cashed in ultimately. Or he could simply have waited. The fact that he has taken a year over there to compete for a place over the security of 3 or 4 years here as a first choice, says it all. Though the second option will remain open in the future, so he can't really lose.

The bigger picture is we have a coach who is renowned for spotting and bringing on young talent.Thats why i expect him to replace Dobbo with a decent payer.Where as yours seems unable to.

Wigan loaned him from Canberra in their troubled relegation fight.

He could walk for free anyway - we could never have forced him to go to Salford. If he'd not got a NRL gig and he'd turned down an extended deal with us, then I'm sure we'd have been more receptive to Salford's offer. But he did get a NRL club, so the issue didn't arise.

The same reason star players in the championship sometimes take a place on the fringes of a SL squad, to prove themselves. Salford may be aiming up to becoming a bigger fish, but compared to the NRL it will be in a small pond.
Seriously - the Aussie press regularly fails to distinguish between Hull KR and Hull FC. We did a quiz thing on here with some Newcastle Knights fans a couple of years ago and they didn't know who James Roby is.

Our chairman is a solicitor I'm sure he'd have a clause within that NRL release clause regards where he goes till the end of 2014 when he'd have been OOC anyway.

If Newcastle have him contacted for the 2014 season and say another super league team enquired Newcatle could sell him to who they want as he's their property now.
Same with Gareth Hock Parmatta own his contract for next year but if Salford decide to pay a transfer fee Paramatta could sell him to us for next year and theirs nothing Wigan can do about it.

| Beau Henry seems to tick most of the boxes. There's not much point being 15 stone if you're a scaredy cat, but it sounds like he has the talent. Regards himself as having the ability to organise and bring a solid kicking game, google tells me. Sounds like he could complement Burns pretty well - as a highly skilled show pony to Burns niggly little terrier.

Hock didn't activate a clause though. And did Wigan not negotiate first refusal on him and Mossop if they come back anyway - I thought Lenegan said they did?
You could be right, though for it to be pre-planned, it'd require an uncharacteristic degree of duplicity from Dobson and an (slightly ![Smile icon_smile.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_smile.gif) )unusual example of us taking our eye completely off the ball.
I get that Salford might be on the verge of something big, and we might be behind you in the queue for players. But surely you appreciate that we're both well down the pecking order from the likes of Newcastle?!

| The halfback position at Newcastle is wide open next year.
Kurt Gidley was supposed to be our gun halfback this year, but like the last several years he has played very few games and next year, if he plays at all, he will mostly play hooker.
We have bought Graig Gower for the rest of this season, but he hasn't spent a minute in the 7 yet.
The guy who has filled the position for the last few years while others have been injured is Tyrone Roberts, who is basically a one trick pony who scores a few tries with a good dummy and has a bit of speed. Our main playmaker is 5/8 Jarod Mullen, who could do with someone to help him out a bit.
In short, if he can outplay Roberts, who is the least talented player in our side, and if Gidley is out for his usual 20 weeks a year, he will play a lot of games.
