On Webster in the act of scoring the try.Do we still have the eight point try in English RL? The same happened in Origin 3 and an 8 point try was awarded. In my opinion it was very dangerous.

Billy Slateresque. I don't condone it as when Leeds used to do it after tackles it really ed us off but no one got hurt and he wasn't attempting to hurt the player, he was attemping to stop a try by any means that he could.

I thought it was out of order and said it at the time. The ref should have had a word at least and the RFL should be warning him about the dangers of that type of attempted 'tackle'.

Thats it then. 8-point try, makes their 'forward pass' moaning irrelevant.

Its a very fair point. Had that happened anywhere else on the pitch other than the in goal area it would have been penalty and possibly a sending off. Why does the fact a try was scored make it any less of an offence???

Didn't notice this at first as my head was in my hands, but watching the highlights today, it look a foolish and dangerous lunge. Obviously trying to stop the try, but should have never gone in with his feet.

Tripping always used to be a straight sending off, seems acceptable these days.

It wasn't a trip. A trip is when you stick a leg out and the player "trips" over it. That didn't happen, he slid in with his legs to try and get something under the ball.

That said, I don't condone it. He got desperate to try and get something under the ball to prevent the try, but it is dangerous. Slater got away with it in the WC, so the precedent has been set there unfortunately.

Surely the precedent was set in Origin III?

As mentioned on the other forum Ben Cockayne did similar in the CC Semi against Saints a few years ago.

according to the comentators on the Origin game, Because Thurston hacked at the ball after the try was scored technically speaking it wasn't a foul in the act of scoring a try, so the 8 point try was wrong to be given.

So there you go. You can kick out at the try scorer, not once but twice and it is just a caution.

Well as you can kick out at someone's head several times in the street and get away with little more than a caution I dont see the problem
