So reading between the lines they have had a shocker of a season and they are having a clear out of the dead wood and the past it. Time to bring in new blood and shake the club up. Ring any bells...
Don't get me wrong I'm in no way putting down the achievments of Fitzgibbon as he has been a model professional and a top level player and will no doubt still be a good player, but do you think he'd be heading your way if the roosters had offered hin the same length deal your lot did. Similarly do you think Long would be heading your way if saints had given him 2 years. Don't fool yourself either of these are coming because they always wanted to play for th mighty Hull. They would have gone to the highest bidder or the one offering the longest deal. (maybe Long wouldn;t have gone to Wigan on principal)
I know this is the same for most signings for most clubs but big name players are slightly different. Unless you are paying BIG money and getting them at there prime, they are moved on because they have peeked and are now not once what they were, the light is fading on a great career and they are looking for one last pay day to see them into retirement.
Just remember, any coach can sign a big name just look on wiki, type in australia national team and make a few silly offers.
A great coach will sniff out the potential and make players in to BIG names, he'll get the players that maybe don't quite fit into the clubs they're at and gel them with the team he's already got.
