The site is now back up but it appears to have been taken over/bought which means they can't use club badges/names/(players?) due to it not being freeware?
If this is the case i believe they have killed the game off totally now

Not many people are going to pay for a game like that imo there were a lot of problems with it : Not being updated to 2009 made it frustrating for some reason. For me the match view was too far away and you could hardly see what the players were doing. Only 7 seasons is poor, when you play games like FM/CM you expect to be able to go through as many seasons as you want, not to be cut off when you finally start to get going. Korkidas getting a silver star !? Come on now... Had a quick search in google, www.blackdragongames.co.uk It looks like the game will still be freeware, so why are the badges like that :S

can't use the logos etc. apparently, freeware or not so having to change it.

BDG specialise in promoting small project games so have teamed up with them.

have you been approached by them? because I know that some other freeware games (about different subjects not just sport such as the hundreds of fan Super Mario games or Star Trek games) use trademarked or copyrighted images and the big companies behind them don't mind as long as they don't make a profit.

what happened was the company which owns the SL rights approached me to discuss the possibility of a retail release of this game.

they offered a very fair developer/publisher agreement but i decided not to go ahead with it.

so i'm removing all the logos and names which are within the copyrights and offering the generic game as freeware once again.

Can't you just take a one-off payment and hand the project over to a games company ? It seems a shame that you won't be rewarded for all that work, as - despite some comments above - I think this is clearly the best RL manager game that has been produced thus far.

I played the first two manager games he's made, and the second was a big improvement over the first (was it rlm 2005/6?), so i can't wait.

First one was 05, was brilliant too. You could see the players having a mini brawl, with all the teams watching



I can see 09 being brilliant, the way he improved from the first one.

I guess the problem with a generic game, even if it is free, is a lot of the fun come from managing your team and buying and selling real players - pretend ones just won't be the same.

Maybe. Although I prefer developing the new players to replace the old one. It was my proudest moment on this game when I finally sold the last of my original Saints squad and fielded a 22-man squad of star players developed solely from the Academy. Took a while, and involved having to send star players out on loan while I promoted new stars from the Academy, but it was a good feeling. If you have a certain number of star players in the squad, you can't create more from the Academy no matter how good they are, but loan those existing stars out and you can create more, then get the loaned players back. I ended up with 20-odd star players across the squad.

What I'd really like is the following :

- Lower leagues - how good would it be to start with a NL3 or amateur club you can name yourself, and raise them to super league through franchising/promotion ?

- New players being developed by other clubs, so that when you look at the transfer market, you can see new blood rather than the same old (and getting older) faces

- Out of contract players in other clubs being e-mailed to your inbox after each match so you can nab a bargain

- A world club challenge, in the 1997 multi-team format

- Internationals, and the ability to get promoted to international manager

- A couple of scrum moves

- More club management issues, like needing to maintain the ground or build a new one, and the ability to take measures to try and increase crowds or sponsorship

- an end to the limit on Academy promotions during any given year - drives me nuts I have to buy some clapped out wreck from the transfer market just to pad numbers, while I can't promote a good young kid because I've already promoted 12.

These games are awful IMO, if your a team such as wakefield or castleford, you will lose and probily be nilled, on the other hand, if you are Leeds or Saints ect, you will Nill a team. Id rather pay for a proper version to be made by someone like Sigames. Also, you can breach the salery cap as much as you want!

Any link for RLM 05' or does anyone have it ? Fancy playing on it for a bit.

i don't entirely agree, as i've made the play offs with both Wakefield and Castleford, and lost many matches with St Helens and Leeds, especially in the medium and hard difficulty settings.

the salary cap and other player restrictions are applied in medium and hard but were turned off for easy mode in the patch, as the consensus seemed to be easy was too difficult.

other sports management games have had time to evolve to the quality they are reached presently, some started out with text based match simulators originally, and if u check the credits they do tend to be backed by large teams.

functionality has to be a priority before anything else or the program won't run. but now the framework is created, gameplay, graphics and sound can be the main focus of following releases so things should improve.
especially if groups such as Black Dragon Games express an interest in developing the project further.

Is there any chance of a Mac release?
