Superb stuff from the lads yesterday.The forwards laid the platform in the first half and Dale lads couldnt cope with them.We also played some great stuff considering the crap conditions.They had a 10 minute spell after half time and that was all we allowed them to have.Great defensive display.Well done to all at the club.Also well done to the fans who went over in filthy conditions

Has anyone read Hossacks report in the Star? I read it online at dinnertime and theres a few bits in it where i wondered if he was actually at the match.His description of the first try is a bit ropey and he more or less says Fawcett walked in for his when it was a cracking solo effort.

Steve was definitely there, had a natter to him before the game, and he brought me a halftime draw ticket as well (which was unexpected).

easy to criticise a journos report - I didn't realise how difficult it was to get the facts correct until I tried it and 'interpretation' plays a big part in it

if you asked ten people to sit down and write a match reprt of the same game you would get ten differing viewpoints,not inaccurate just slightly different because of the interpretation of any given piece of action - a bit like being a ref I suppose ?

It's easy to criticise journos not because of their observations or opinions, but because they get their facts wrong, so badly wrong that it makes you wonder if they guess sometimes.
Here's an example from this week's Free Press ....
Liam Hoden writes ....
''A 38-6 victory at Rochdale - coupled with a raft of postponements in Championship One - ensured Doncaster move top of the pile.''
Now this is presumably Liam's explanation as to why we have played an extra game, and it's just a complete guess.
The real reason was that it was a Challenge Cup weekend and no league games were being played except Rochdale vs Doncaster, which was a rearranged game because the turf was being sorted out later in the year at Spotland and Rochdale couldn't play on it at that time.
That's journos for you!

Oh! and Chris Hodgson, that's another.

It's an example from today's Free Press, which you don't get and therefore know very little about,that illustrates the point.
And so no, it's not a generalisation at all. It is a specific criticism of the sports journos on our local papers.
In case it had escaped you, we were talking about Steve Hossack a local journalist associated with the Star and Free Press.
And the Free Press and the Star have been guilty of some right howlers over the years with regard to wrong information and pictures in their reports of Dons games.
But don't take my word for it, ask the question on here and see what answers you get.

all i'm saying is that journos like players,fans,refs etc etc get it wrong sometimes or miss it altogether or quite often get a different perspective on a certain situation

what may be a fantastic piece of inventive forward play by Paul Cooke to a hardcore Donny fan may just be terrible defending by the opposition in the view of someone else, or whatever....

just as a side issue - I was listening to an interesting interview by Phil Dowd (FA Cup Final ref) on Talksport and he was saying that reffing mistakes ,some of which he has made years ago still haunt him and even cause him sleepless nights - maybe refs are human after all ?

what gets my goat is , stanky was scathing of his teams sub standard display spread over many paragraphs and not one word of credit to the dons we were under the cosh for the first 25 mins defending our line then took over the game, so mr stanky give credit where its due,a far better team beat your side,i wont be one of them brown nosers who say you will be up there come the end of season cos you wont be..

Correct. I have been at many games which have been televised and have played hell with the refs decisions but when i have watched the video the day after realised they were right after all!

Theres no way that Stanky was going to give us any praise after what went on a few years ago. He'll be quick to open his gob again though if they manage to turn things round and get a result against us on Sunday.On last weeks performance I dont think they will be up there either.There are some ood teams in this league this year.
