A couple of pints pre-racing at Newcastle (I know you're watching S-O);

First up a Scottish Ruby Ale from the Redcastle Brewery, Red Lady 4.0% in the Victoria Comet opposite Newcastle station.

Followed by Bad Seed Brewery's Rule The Roost, an espresso stout 5.6% in the Newcastle Tap.

Both very enjoyable.

A couple more post-racing, both in the Mile Castle;

Steam Box Tunnel Vision 4.2%, an amber bitter and to my liking.

Maxim Time Lord 4.0%, a blonde ale, not quite my thing.

Journey break at York for a visit to the Tap (would have been rude not to);

Brew York Viking DNA 5.0%, a delicious smoked porter.

Marble Pint (yep, it's called Pint) 3.9%, a golden coloured session ale with hints of grapefruit and lemon grass.

Finished a good day off with a couple of excellent Stancill brews in the Corner Pin, Barnsley Bitter 3.8% (needs no explanation) and Black, a very enjoyable dark session ale 3.7%.

Stocks Old Horizontal 5.3% (Hallcross) and Welbeck Abbey Portland Black 4.5% (Tut n Shive) both on good form yesterday.

Another visit to Sheffield kicks off with my second ale this week from Brew York, following Viking DNA on Tuesday (York Tap), it's Tonkoko 4.3%, a milk stout in the Fat Cat at Kelham Island.

Next up, a visit to the Kelham Island Tavern and a pint of Half Moon Dark Masquerade, a mild at 3.6%.

We found the Wellington to be open (not always the case) so I've just had a pint of Neepsend Massa 5.1%, a dark, smokey, sweet stout. Very nice.

The Red Deer next and a delicious nectar-like brew from Titanic, a Chocolate and Vanilla Stout 4.5%. Just wonderful!

Titanic again in the Dove and Rainbow, this time the very enjoyable Plum Porter 4.9%.

Sheffield Tap ... Thornbridge (it almost had to be) Strawberry Lucaria 4.5 %, a stunning Strawberry Ice Cream Porter 4.5% .. superb!

Liverpool today for round two of the Illegal Eagles;

Rock The Boat (Sittin' On) The Dock, a dark ale 3.5% with chocolate and nuts, in the Lion Tavern.

Second tipple, Three Brothers Ruby Revolution 4.6%, chocolate and toffee flavours, in the Head of Steam.

Also last night, The Parker Brewery Barbarian Bitter 4.1%, nice and malty, in the Richard John Blackler.

Camerons Strongarm 4.0% (ruby ale) and Sadler's Peaky Blinder 4.4% (black IPA), both in the North Western, Liverpool and both perfectly acceptable.

The railway in donny town centre has timothy taylors boltmaker on a very nice ale and cask marque awarded

The Marketplace Alehouse and Deli appears to be changing hands from tomorrow. My money is on involvement from past owners of Cask Corner.

Nice to see Brains The Rev. James (original) 4.5% available in the Corner Pin yesterday.

The Corner Pin last night ... nice to find Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose 4.6% available. It's been a while but I do enjoy this smoky chestnut brown toffee and treacle flavoured ale.
