Castle Rock Autumn Daze 5.3%, an amber premium bitter with spicy overtones.

Rooster's Pistol River 4.0%, an amber coloured best bitter combining rye, malt and fruits with a hint of spice.

Marston's Early Doors 6.0%, a straw coloured strong IPA. Very fruity and yet the malt and biscuit flavours are also evident.

Rudgate Green Hop Monster 4.0%, a blond hoppy ale with hints of fruit and spice.

Atlas Nimbus 5.0%, a straw gold pale ale mixing bread and citrus flavours. Surprisingly pleasant considering my taste.

Friday evening in Doncaster ...

The Queens had two ales from the 2 Roses Brew Co, Darton, Barnsley;

Fall (Autumnal Bitter) 4.3%, malty, nutty and smoky ... very nice.
Nailmaker 4.3%, not the most flavour-packed porter but still nice enough.

The Red Lion had Saltaire Triple Chocoholic 4.8% ... always welcome!

The Corner Pin had two ales from the Yorkshire Heart Brewery, Nun Monkton, York;

Hearty Bitter 3.7%, a chestnut brown toffee flavoured bitter ... enjoyable.
Blackheart Stout 4.8%, roasted coffee and molasses, very nice indeed.

The Looking Glass, Warrington had a local brew available on Saturday evening which was the sort of ale I could happily drink on a regular basis. Coach House Cracker Barrel 4.6%, however, is a seasonal ale sometimes badged as Cracker Barrel Bonfire Brew. A light brown, rich and malty yet also fruity bitter.

Just a few yards away, the Lower Angel had the ever reliable and always very enjoyable Rudgate Ruby Mild 4.4% ...result!

Fullers Damson Porter 4.6% in the Corner Pin last night ... one of my '5 a day' ... apparently, I don't do fruit.

Bridgehouse Brewery Porter 5.0% in the Victoria Hotel, Leeds last night. Toffee and malty - delicious.

Tut n Shive, Doncaster, my first Christmas ale for the 2017 festivities on Monday evening .... Hardys and Hansons Rocking Rudolph 4.2%.

Purchased couple of bottles of that from Aldi yesterday evening for Mrs M. Her verdict -very nice.

My time of year with all of the festive brews and winter warmers .... happy days ☺

On the subject of bottles, I've just opened a Brains Spill The Beans (Coffee Porter) ... delicious, would love to find this in cask format.

Brains brewery also own Coffee#1 which is a Coffee shop chain mainly in the South West. Their shop in Weymouth is without doubt the finest coffee house I have experienced. The coffee (my second favourite drink) was one of the best and their range of cakes and pastries unreal.

And no I have no intention of hijacking the thread into some sort of Mr Bean

... and again in the Swan at Winnick (Warrington).

Grand drop of stuff is that if kept and served right, and that goes without question in the Corner Pin. Does anyone know if its still the resident ale in the Sal (not been in for a while) it was always beautiful from there

I have a feeling it may be on more regular in the corner pin I went in yesterday afternoon and it had sold out. I will probably drink in the sal when I win the lottery

A group of us meet in the Sal every two months ... do the quiz and have a drink.
None of us now drink their ale apart from having the odd one. We all drink lager ... and they even took out Carling darling.
Reason ... the beer is queer ... as well as dear.
After two or three sips their real ale goes flat as a fart . .. irrespective of the brew.
Why people still think it is a decent alehouse is beyond me.
It is now a Thaied House.
The cognoscenti will understand the pun.

Any drinking establishment where one can't play 'Lord of the Rings' with pints of real ale should be totally avoided for real ale.

Not been in the Sal for months, the previous couple of visits were very disappointing in terms of both choice and quality of ale. The Corner Pin is head and shoulders above it.
