| Them or others......Ben Cockayne came from 'nowhere' to become a great player in a matter of matches at the Dons and then on to HKR inside a year.
There are countless better players out there in the amateur ranks than what are currently playing for the Dons.
The problem is their cicumstances dictate that in practical terms they are can't come and play for Doncaster.
However if someone suggests that there are not better lads out there available, compared with some of the ones in our side that will NOT make it however much some people want to wish it to come true, I find that astonishing.
Do we have to stick with some of this sorry bunch..really?
There are gems among them like Aaron Henry....but half this team need to be told they are not good enough.....and replacements found.....quick.
I'd sooner watch young enthusiastic kids than blokes who clearly are not fit and are overweight.
BUT I have changed my mind and will be at the Sunday game....if only to supply some income to the club....and a ghoulish fascination as to how bad this outfit can really become.
I do however expect us to come out fighting and to really have a go at South Wales.....who let's face it are there for the taking in normal circumstances...and if we get some early joy will lift our confidence and help us kick on to victory.
I am not sure that we have enough skill or fitness to do that though..

| Scott MacDonald impressed me during the time he was at the Club (now back at Oulton as is Matty Handforth) and from the list above there are certainly some who could freshen up the current squad.

| I find it difficult to believe they are no amateur Doncaster Rugby League players able to step up to the cause who are or have been playing at a reasonably high level, but we can give a union player a chance, who I hope can do us a job, providing he s not already left.

| =#0000FFThe problem with amateur rugby in Doncaster is you dont have enough quality teams so you dont produce the players. Which local players would be good enough now or in the future? players from last year are playing at Oulton who are bottom of their league this is not a good enough standard for proffesional rugby.
A first step would be to get a team in the national conferce league and build from that.

| Tony Atter
Phil White
Wayne Green
Scott Jones
Craig Holt
(other local lads)
the list goes on.
We may not have teams-a-plenty but certainly Toll Bar, Bentley Comps and the Marauders have all produced good talent.

| I was really suprised we didn't sign Craig Holt and Scott Jones, both good young, local prospects. Anybody know the reason why these lads weren't signed this year?

No. Unless anyone does know otherwise, we can only assume that they didn't fit the Coaching Staff's plans for this season.

All have played 1st team for the Dons and from local sides.
Sean is awesome when in the mood, unfortunately he's so laid back he's horizontal!
Chris's knee wont stand the strain of pro rugby unfortunately, and he wouldn't turn out for Donny anyway now. You'd have to ask him the reason why.
Scott is a great prospect and again wont turn out for them for reasons only he should say.
There are a couple of others they should be looking at as well but probably wont due to the fact that they aren't from Cas, Fev or Hull.
But there is plenty of talent playing at both The Comps and Toll Bar, but they seem to be constantly overlooked in favour of players from outside the town who quite clearly aren't good enough.
IMHO that is.

| I know Chris was extremely disappointed with how he was treated when he got injured.
I'm guessing that Scott doesn't feel that he's had a fair crack of the whip (just a guess).
The guy playing on the wing for the Comps at the moment (I think his name is Ashley) is head and shoulders over those played this season but it's up to the coach - My advice would be, if you haven't looked at this guy, you should. He's got strength and pace and looks like one of those players who would be a real crowd favourite.

| Wing really is a position of weakness for the Dons at the moment, so we need to look at other options.
Why not look at this lad, Macdonald who played last year is another option, and IMO China or Wayne Green could do a better job then the likes of Collins, Wilson, Winter and King who have all played this season.
Having said that Henry and Obsorne might be the 1st choice Wing combo when/ if they are both available

Agree about Scott MacDonald who I mentioned earlier in the thread. I really was impressed by the guy from the Comps who I think is called Ash Williams.

Yes its Ashley Williams ( related to the past player Chappie Williams ) speed of a winger but strength of a centre/second row and fearless in tackle.
