I agree with what everyone else has said about not affecting our chances, but it does seem to put Wakey on par with Salford and Castleford. Before todays news about the stadium and mystery donation, Wakey looked the weakest bid by far. They still look very vunerable but it at least gives their fans a bit of hope now.
Will be interesting to see what happens at Castleford. Whereas Wakey have been fairly upfront about their stadium application problems, the Cas Chief exec just seems to tell lie after lie. He's been giving the impression that their stadium is just around the corner for about 5 years. Dates come and go with no progress, but it doesn't stop him spinning the next story a few weeks later. I know there have been recent developments with Cas' stadium application to do with selling their old ground and regarding the land where the new stadium will be, but until their stadium is actually built I'd be very wary about believing anything he says.

And they are just a few from a few minutes of googling

No new ground for any club by franchise time 2011 so I'd ignore the lot as failed promises, and just review all other aspects. IMHO all this has done is maybe put more pressure on Salford & Cas and until more developments take place nothing more.'"
Salford start building in 3 weeks cas and wakey are nowhere near us.

| Widnes will quite rightly be in SL in 2012. The RFl have said at least one team will go up if the criteria are met - you do by a country mile.
3 in the frame for the drop. If Salford continue at the prsent rate of progress it leaves Cas and wakey. The OPP for Wakey keeps them in the game. A no or even a delay on Friday woud have been game over. If the OPP has to go for a public inquiry then it will be game over as they will run out of time re licences.
If wakey can go straight for planning permission then they will close the gap on cas. It then comes down to where the stadiums are at in June July. I they are neck and neck on the stadium then Cas should get the nod ahead of wakey.
As a Giant fan I look forward to playing you in SL in2012.

No-one is anywhere until they're playing in a COMPLETED stadium.
All three of these clubs should have been kicked out. Unfortunately, there aren't any clubs to replace them bar one - Widnes.

Well considering wakey havn't got full planning and we havn't heard anything from cas for months, compare that with ours starting the actual build in 3 weeks with a company like peel holdings who KNOW how to get projects built, i would say were infront out of the 3.

If salford had any sort of success we'd be ten times the bigger club than both wakey and cas and widnes, were a city with a capacity of 260000 people and have a city boardering us of 350000 people we only need to tap into 3% of either citys population and we'd be clearing the 10000 mark, lets see what happens now were spending the full cap instead of 40% we spent in the all of our 13 seasons of super league , success brings in the crowds and salford's board havn't bought a team attractive enough in recent years to bring in a decent crowd, lets see how the next few years pan out ay, and anyway even when widnes were kings in the 80s you only maxed 8 or 9000 even as world champions you were definately a big team but never a big club, simple reason is widnes is only a small town also being next to 2 other big clubs saints and wire, salford have a blank canvas to work from with new money and new stadium our future looks bright!

Ha dont you just love it, the big thing in all that is [uIF[/u and even then your just guessing, Salford have always had crap crowds even when you had some success. Get over it lad.
Each year in SL you get punished and finish in the bottom 3, the only reason you've signed decent next year is because your likely to be in the one of the 3 to drop so it looks good on the old franchise document.

| Way I say it is Wigan is greater Manchester and will have the bigger pull on those areas. I don't buy it all, same with Quins & Crusaders it's when the cap fits, for catchment area it's all Manchester, London & Wales yet when talk about crowds it's council estate, Twickenham (Union land) & Wrexham... Can't have it both ways surely)

We have spent more due to the stadium going ahead, erm i remember the glory days during the 70s we were selling out the willows every game, 12000 and that was nearly all home fans due to the few cars on the rd for away fans to get to the willows, and with games being played friday nights that limited even more away fans attending,
fans follow success, simple if salford start challenging and finishing higher in the next 5/10 years you'd have another hull fc sized club in salford, big citys always have an advantage on little towns FACT!

Here's a couple of facts for you.
Man Utd
Man City
You're competing with two of the biggest clubs in a sport that's the country's national game in a competition that's revered around the globe. Really, Salford IS just a small town in Manchester. It's why you are still where you are i'm afraid.

Ha ha ye im sure a club 30 miles away from manchester will cash in on new support from the area, i live in manchester, eveyone around here know salford and listen out for our scores every week, the amount of people ive had come over and say when you get that new stadium i'll start watching as im not going near the willows, people don't realise the rep the area around the willows has, its terrible its well known not just in salford but manchester and trafford too, when we move it will attract thousands of new fans who won't be worried and anxous to attent salford games.
P.s to poster above, salford city is bigger than manchester city, didnt you know that?

I'm thinking that as well. In a lot of traditional RL towns, the stadia is situated fairly central and for generations, fans have walked down to the game with their dads or sons etc. I just wonder if moving will affect the walk up. Also kids won't just be able to walk to the games. I remember watching Widnes in the late 80's early 90's as 9 or 10 year olds, we used to walk to the games with all our mates. Have no idea if kids are still doing that at Widnes, but I would have thought any out of town stadium stops kids from going unless they are going with parents or getting dropped off etc.
Obvioulsy success will have a major affect on crowds but, if Salford are not that successful, the crowds will probably pretty much stay as they are. Warrington are the club that everyone points to when saying about how a new stadium will double the crowds etc, but for every Warrington there are clubs like Widnes, Leigh or Doncaster. At the end of the day the shiny new stadium looks good to the RFL and a decent marketing tool for a while, but once the stadium has been open for a couple years, people are only really interested in the standard of rugby on the pitch.

| The MEN is a great music venue but if you headlined with Betty n the Whippets I would guarantee many empty seats.
Interesting point of stadium location, I believe the LSV has helped attendances on wet days but reduced them for big games, due to walk up habits.
When the Humbles moved from Central Park it took years for gates to get back to what they were, you lose fans and it takes time for new fans to come through

Warrington went from around 6k to 11k when they moved but they kept their stadium in the town and they have really moved up a gear in marketing RL. It helps when there is no football team right on your doorstep too.

Indeed. However, I do think you have to play it right and be in the right division at the time. Look at Leigh. They never had the boom, because they've not been ran well enough in recent years. Warrington used the stadium as a springboard.
Wakefield and Cas, if their stadiums are not just a mirage this time, will have to play it right. Saints are clearly being held back by their stadium, if I were a Saints fan I wouldn't worry, their crowds should boom in the stadium. Salford, I honestly don't think the crowds are there anyway. Another pie in the sky RFL venture.

No crying from me. I love this new system. Franchising is bloody fantastic. I can't wait to see Widnes in Super League. It's going to be AWESOME. I predict you'll finish the first season in ...................................
