Unless Betts is staying on for 2012, this seems really bizarre timing. Interested to hear who ut is though. If the person is to make an appearance (in person) at the press conference, then it won't be a current in-work NRL coach.

I think the timing is absolutely key. The recruitment is about to begin in the next week or so and the coach for next year should be on board to assist with that and make his mark.

If it is a good appointment then there is little doubt that this will help to drive up Stronghold memberships ahead of the May 31st deadline.

If I was putting money on it I'd say Brian Noble,would prefer D Anderson though. Not long to go now!

This is a very interest announcement indeed.

I can't see it being any current SL head coach as it wouldn't go down too well with his current club. If it was to be Noble I doubt he'd have signed up for Halifax (unless that deal isn't a goer anymore).

Maybe a current assistant coach like Anderson, Purtill (SP) (from Saint Helens), or Lowes. Or a championship side - ie Powell. But are these better than what you have?

However it is you need them over here quickly to get building a squad.

I'm hoping we'll still be in SL next year and really do look forward to have Widnes back in SL.
