You've just described Horne!

Sod all this backup talk, lets sign someone to start ahead of Horne. Who the hell would want to come halfway round the world to be a backup for a hasbeen?

Like I said earlier if it's someone like Herbert or Rovelli then hopefully it's only a year, tbh would rather sign a young british kids on a 3 year deal and let him mature like Briggs.

All the top halves have contracts so we can't go out and sign a replacement for Horne or Long now, we can only bring in cover.

People won't be convinced, they think all the top Aussie players are sat by their phone waiting for the super league to call.

TBH i can't see anyone worth having who would be prepared to fly round the world to be 'cover'. Like you said earlier it would be better to find someone from the NL's and try to develop them. With full-time training there may just be a couple of hidden gems out there.

If the HDM article is accurate I would have thought that the comment regarding the half back having "significant NRL experiance" would rule out Herbert as a target, as he has very little. I'm with you Paul I would rather us take a punt on a young British player like Briggs or Moore.

Are there any other potential targets out in Aus other than the 2 that have been mentioned on here? As they both appear to be a bit underwhelming.

If I'm reading his profile correctly he's scored a grand total of 15 tries in his entire career, and none of them for his current club. All of whose fans, apparently, want him released.

the way I read it is that they are looking for a youngster - a "project". Perhaps someone who can't get first grade football (like Dobson) but whose game would suit SL.

Difference being that Dobson was already proven over here at both Catalans and Wigan.

They could be a couple with NRL experience.

There's also been a few players retiring so their spaces will need filling.

I think people hear Dobson couldn't get a game and believe there's all these half backs waiting for a chance.

There's not.

If were looking at a youngster to bring on then Blake Lazarus might be interested.

Personally if Rovelli is here for one year to bolster Horne/Long in the halves then it's a decent enough move. He is not top class but you won't get that at this late stage, he does have experience and could do a job for the year. That then leaves us cap and salary space to find a more proven option for 2012.

That said I would have like us to try with Briggs as he could be a really good option for the future.
