Well I am happy about this signing, a young British prop and at 24 still growing (size & knowledge).

Yes he has been injured but lets face it, it was one injury not a series of lots of different injuries and it has now been treated. The last Wigan player we signed in Cameron Pelphs hasn't turned out too bad has he, in fact I think he has gone pretty well this season and I rememeber all the doom and gloom merchants on here saying the same thing about him and injuries.

Love the way he reconises the fans and also I love players with a point to prove because they can be dangerous big woot woot from me, I am excited.

In defence of MM, the whole idea of the thread is for people to say what they think about the signing. She's not impressed. That doesn't mean she thinks every signing should be run by her prior to its execution, she's just expressing an opinion. Should every thread about new signings contain only positive opinions, do you think?

For what it's worth, I'm neither impressed nor unimpressed. I'm keeping an open mind. He seems to be a talented player who's had a bit of a nightmare with injuries. On that basis, 3 years is a bit of a risk, but I'd like to think that this risk has been accounted for in his contract terms. If he manages an extended injury free run, he could turn out to be just the ticket.

I don't imagine he would have come here for 1 year (unless it was extendable for a further 2 based on appearances etc).

I honestly don't know enough about him to know if he's a decent player, but if the clu wanted him, based on their assessment, and a 3 year deal was what he was after, it all seems sensible to me.

I guess it depends how you define friends, anyway.

Just got a txt from a mate in Wigan who says we beat saints and widnes for his signature who all offered 3 yr deals and Bradford a 2. So some people rate him and as has been said what else is out there.

Don't think its a bad signing, a bit of a risk yes, but not a bad signing. However if i were looking for a young prop from Wigan. then the guy who has been on loan at Cas, Ben Davies would have been my target.

For the record MM (me) is only one person on this board!...nor do I have to explain any-thing...not impressed with 3 yrs due to injury record simple as!....More than happy to be proved wrong especially with my lack of knowledge and all that like

Pretty much my stance also. Maybe a tad more optimistic based on comments from the Wigan fans. I really haven't seen enough of him to form a more rounded opinion at this point. The injury record doesn't concern me as much as some, since it appears to be a single underlying problem that took a long time to diagnose and rectify.

I doubt they will release him, looks a great prospect.

Not sure what to make of O'Carroll to be honest, the only game I ever remember seeing him play was the Bradford game, so nowhere near enough to decide.

As others have said hope his contract is weighted to include appearances so if he does get injuries then it won't hit us too hard in the pocket.

The injury he sustained that kept him out of the game for 18 months was something no-one had heard of at the club. We got advice from all over Europe and eventually something has worked out. I'm pleased we stood by him during this, but disappointed we haven't seen if it was all worth it. Prior to his injury when both him and Paul Prescott were coming through I would have labelled him the better prospect. Prescott though has had a more consistent run in the team and has done very well in fairness.

He's a tough lad. Stocky and hard to tackle. Will give his all and is a likeable character. He's at a young age and if he stays fit he could be a very shrewd signing with the lack of quality English prop forwards in the game and the ever decreasing overseas quota.

Hull FC (and Wigan had we kept him) have nothing to lose.

Surprised you let him go to Widnes, like mentioned he looks a very good prospect. O'Carol may prove to be a decent signing (I hope so), bit of a risk but hopefully the price will have reflected that...thanks for the information.

all I said was he needs to work on his defence before he's ready for SL. Then everybody's down my throat. I think he's a cracking prospect but I wouldn't throw him straight in as that could ruin him.
