i am sure the club and staff want all of these things sorted asap too so we will know the truth on all counts soon enough and at the end of the day players come and go year in year out thats the nature of the beast

A few possible and non-worrying explanations for this IMO...

2. In Manu's case it could be money or - less likely IMO - he thinks trophies are more likely elsewhere in the time he has remaining.

I don't think speculating on some possible underlying malaise is justified.

Manu can go if he wishes and thanks for the last six years.

He is in his early thirties, he has won zero his cahnces of winning at Hull in the next couple of years are limited. I think because of his age he will have been offered a reduced dela to his current one and bringing Elis in would not have helped his wage claims. The new regime inheritted a team from the last lot they will want to bring in the there own players and there own wage structure.

Do I go for a better offer from Saints ?

Good luck to him its a short career and he has to get out of it what he can and perhaps he did not share our new regimes vision either.

The club will survive and move on it always has upto now.

Be sorry to see him leave because he has improved year on year but no-one is bigger than the club! We'll just have to wait and see.

A number of players where rumoured to be upset by Agars departure. Briscoe and Ogre among them and both are rumoured to be on the way out could Manu also be one of those who where upset by this ?

This nags at me, too. The anomaly is Turner's reputed departure - he went backwards and was ultimately pretty much rejected under Agar - yet now Gentle has fast-tracked him in the right direction, he also apparently wants to leave.

I think the old regime had it's favourites, who'd make the squad whatever - the untouchables - whereas Gentle has made it clear that everyone is now on an equal footing. I would imagine - as Kosh has said - that this change (while necessary and desperately sought by us fans) was greeted with unease by those in their comfort zones.

Also says Manu's decision is "Not so easy when you are being offered substantially more money by another club".

How the hell much must this other club be offering? I don't suppose Manu is amongst our lower earners on his current deal, and, if the club are to be believed, that has been improved upon in his latest contract offer. And yet another club is offering 'substantially more'?

Interesting comment was that. I notice he resisted the offer to say which club when Pinkney asked him.

It wouldn't surprise me if a club like Saints could offer more, they have a lot of young players just coming up from their academy who will be on cheaper deals. Will make it harder for them to retain players over the next few years.

Funny thing is they don't need Willie Manu, didn't they lock Tony Puletua up for a few more years ?

Hope he stays, if not bring on life without him and the further progress of the club.

IF he is leaving then it's a big blow but it's not a devastating one. Players come and go, that is the nature of sport especially in the modern world of contracts. As has been said, no player is bigger than the club.

I'd be very disappointed in Manu, though. A shame that loyalty counts for little these days.

IMO we shouldn't be offering Manu that much. He's a quality player but his status in the squad doesn't deserve that much money, imo, as I think that Prop must be our priority for next season, followed by centre (retain Turner, sign Arundel?) and possibly a halfback.
