| Quote ="Riderofthepalehorse"I get the romantic notion of expansion, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of another French weekend, “many supporters are not” it’s expensive with travel costs escalating, especially air fares after covid, the collapse of Thomas Cook hasn’t helped the occasional traveler either, imagine cup draws and crappy loop fixtures as well. Their are some very cheap air fare deals now, but generally the routes to our summer getaway have nearly doubled in the peak months.
But I want to watch my team play, preferably live, playing Fev would cost me around £35 excluding beer
a double header Cats/Toulouse only playing them once you probably cop for around £500, not sure on the euro tunnel prices, coach trips etc, as I said the thought of a visit to Toulouse and Catalan again is superb, I’ll probably do the Toulouse one only, for inquisitive reasons, depending on dates.
I listened to Danny Ward almost sneering, about the old views of “they don’t bring any fans with them” but he’s working for an organisation that don’t really care about supporters, just subscriptions to Sky, and the fact remains like it or not Fev & Leigh put more money in AP pocket than Catalan ever have, not this year mind.
As a supporter, I will welcome our visitors from Toulouse, and congratulations on their promotion.'"
Don't forget the added expenses of the loop fixtures

Perhaps we should just revert to the old Yorkshire and Lancashire league, with 3-4 fixtures each across the Pennines? That will wow the Sporting World!!!
We need to find a way to progress the game and build interest. Toulouse increases that interest. Featherstone coming up to Super League would have had the same impact that Leigh did this season.
Not all fans travel to away games anyway and there are still 10+ other away games to attend on the M62 each season. Other than Rovers, other teams don’t bring many fans to Hull.
Let’s at least see how it goes, before we bemoan Toulouse not been located on the M62.

We could explore something like state of origin games, to help build the game.

Don't forget the cost to Les Cats. As someone else has stated it's another expensive away trip. One which people may make to Toulouse, at the expense of a trip, or two, to Perpignan.

Come on let's not overthink or over analyse this.
I'm sure Catalan will be fine not having to make an overseas flight for an away game.
They will also I'm sure take more away supporters to a game and vice versa for Toulouse.
They will be increased TV coverage/interest in France for the 1st SL derby.
I think it's a great concept and very pleased for the expansion of the game.

This is the best thing to happen in S/L for years
I expect to see Paris emerge again and several other French teams follow the route of Toulouse.
You have to remember Rugby league in France was the dominant code at one time so there is already a support base for the sport.
Nearly 10000 fans to see a championship play off is great news
TV coverage in France for the Catalan playoff against HKR was huge and also included Spanish TV.
This will also be a wake up to SKY.
My prediction you will also see a Spanish R/L team apply to come into what is now Championship 1 in the coming years.

I wasn't overthinking anything. I am ambivalent on their promotion. Ultimately time will tell. It is after all, officially named Super League Europe.

| Anyone who doesn't see the benefit of Toulouse being promoted over the likes of Fev isn't seeing the bigger picture. The game is struggling financially and a few hundred extra bums on seats once per season isn't going to rescue clubs that are struggling. We need to attract bigger sponsors and better TV deals and getting clubs like Toulouse in SL is one way to help achieve that. It opens us up to French TV offering more for the rights to broadcast games. Sponsors will see opportunity that just isn't there with yet another M62 team. Yes there are negatives in the short term, but if we aren't trying to grow the game and reach out to new areas we are eventually going to regress to a part time sport again. I hope Toulouse thrive and grow.

I seem to remember all the same pomp and circumstance with Toronto, they were going to open up the North American advertising market. I hope it doesn’t end in tears again just like Gay Paris, the original European part of SLE.

Totally different, PSG was a new club in an area with no real connection to rugby league. Toulouse on the other hand were formed in 1937.

I think the Catalans had major problems in 20/20 and 20/21 negotiating their own tv broadcasting deals in France, in fact in their historic grand final year, some of their games were not televised at all. Hopefully the promotion of Toulouse will add more weight to new broadcasting deals for both teams.
