At the end of the day losing a player like Manu will be a blow but not the end of the world. I would rather be where we are now than where we were this time last season.

I have faith in the new owner, Coach and DOR to be able to put together a team that will be able to not just compete but actually win some silverware. For proof just look at the difference in the space of 6 months at the club all round and the product on the pitch plus all with a team he inherited that failed to perform year on year and with only a few additions with only Pitts being his addition (can't really say Burnett is an addition).

This is not a question of luck but of sound management. I believe, as does just about every other poster on this forum, that we have a great management team who are more than capable of replacing them with equal and probably better quality players. Their record since arriving isn't too bad. Our supporters are actually inspired by what they've achieved in such a short time, especially after the barren years under Agar, Hetherington and party.

So Manu says he likes it here,family settled and club showing a big improvement this season,the signing of Ellis is a big statement of intent and he asks for a 3yr deal,we offer said 3 yrs and a good offer as well.He now does a u turn and legs it to Sts.....Thanks for the memorys Willie but you are replaceable....end of the day

You lot watch Manu & Turner far more than I do, but would Manu turning 33 next year be a concern or should it be? Or do you think we'll get a good 2 years out of him still?

Also Turner, could he perhaps play wing? I've seen it mentioned on here by some that he could go back row but how about the other way - wing?

Agree with that. Like I've just said, he's played in a $hite team for 5/6 seasons now and apparently been happy at the club. As soon as we appear to have massively turned a corner and are on our way up, he legs it for more money or an apparent increased chance of silverware?

Manu should easily have 2 good years left, maybe more - as witness our offer of a 3 year contract. I'd argue that he's having his best season this year, although that might be down to our general improvement.

I don't really see Turner as a winger.

Good stuff, i'm happy with the signing but there's always a concern when you sign a 33 year old.

What would prevent Turner going wing? I recall he went the length of the field against us so pace seems there and some have said he's defensively suspect so you'd imagine the wing would suit him. My reason for asking is we're well stocked for centres and wing is going to be our weak spot and a player who can shift is always good to have on teh outside!

Think you should wait till it's actually been confirmed he's signed for you he could still sign for us for all everyone knows.

I don’t care the reason. If he has decided to leave then he goes with my best wishes and thanks. He has constantly been a genuine servant to the club whilst wearing the black and white. I wish him all the ‘personal’ best for the future.

Having tried to follow this thread it seems a few people feel let down by Manu.

If I put myself in his shoes.....'I have been probably the best player in what's been a poor (2008/2009) to average side (2010/2011)...at times I've been the teams only hope and god knows where they would be without me...I'm settled at the club and a new regime seem to have big ideas...looking forward to a new contract which will be my last....hang on we've just signed Gareth Ellis....oh maybe that means the deal I could potentially have been offered is slightly less....oh and maybe that also means I will have less minutes next year at FC...played as an impact sub....Saints have offered me what FC would have done without Ellis coming in....and more minutes....oh and they have Nathan Brown as coach....chance to win some silverware before I retire...'

Am I the only person who feels he hasn't actually screwed over us over too badly if he goes? I'll be gutted but IMO he's been a good servant and I'm trying to see things from his perspective.

He hasn't 'screwed us over' in the sense that Cooke or Carvell did. It's still disappointing though.

I think the strength of some reactions has a lot to do with how long this has been rumbling on for. Certainly for me I'd moved from 'oh well' to 'feck him' in the space of the last 24hrs as things see-sawed back and forth. Patience exhausted!

Actually if given the fact he asked for a 3yr contract and was given it including a raise in his salary and he knew all along he was going to sign for saints not us then yeah he has screwed the club.

I would also ask the question did he or his agent actually have permission off the club to speak to other clubs..

Don't recall anyone posting that they're not bothered. The difference of opinion is on how much of an impact his [iapparent[/i departure will have going forward. And that's not likely to be settled until the shape of next seasons squad is fixed.

TBH he wouldn't have done anything there that pretty much all other players don't do. The no-contact period is pretty much worthless.
