| Sandow signing seems strange after shelling out for Chase & Smith !. Maybe they could beef him up again to play prop.

| does anyone else think our recruitment is poor mainly because of where hull is located?
before the gold rush in the nrl we seemed to sign good overseas players, j smith, swain, best, berrigan but we always struggle to attract british players as they all like to be based around the west Yorkshire/Lancashire area

yeah you could be on to something there, many of the decent players that come from lancashire that play for west yorkshire clubs they can stay put and commute but hull is just to far to travel, i defo think youth investment is the way forward we have 5 out of 14 top conference league so hull is full of RL talent. i also think fc home games should be back to sundays as the team would be not allowed to go on the lash fri/sat were as fri night games there straight out afterwards and on sat. healthier bodies healthier minds = top RL stars. imo.

| Quote ="number 6"does anyone else think our recruitment is poor mainly because of where hull is located?'" It's always been a problem, players from west of the pennines in particular. Relocating is never popular, with contracts being relatively short, so if they want to change clubs, travelling is a more attractive proposition.

| I disagree, we have let a few player go and lets look at it.
Happy,
Tickle - been bad for half a season, crash ball lets drop it.
Lynch - been a good grafter but we have a team full and not anywhere near the year before.
Sad
O'meley - yes was good and was our forward to go forward.
Briscoe - Early in the year was rubbish got better at the end of the year we will miss him.
I saw loads of forum posts about having no grunt players in the forwards who could bend the line, what do Hull do sigh two players who can do that and we start complaining, yes Feka was really crap at Salford but he is in good shape and knows it is his last chance to do it in SL.
We don't know if Gentle is leaving but if as posted Radford has been in charge of our defence this season then he as done a bloody good job because that as been our only saving grace this season.
What we do need the is someone who can sort out attack out, now I don't know if it will work but again loads of posts of how we have never been great at attacking since Cooke left us, assistant coach in charge of our attacking would do for me. I will never agree with how he left us and how he gloated when he first went to rovers but I my respect for him as grown recently because of his HDM write ups he has spoken a lot of sense and he can see what is wrong.
I hope like most of us will do is maybe calm down a little, Hudds game nearly made me cry, I was devastated and would have sacked Gentle on the night had I been AP but I hope it is just HDM jumping the gun again with Gentle sacking because we need to look at everything in the cold light of day, and get to the bottom of what is wrong once and for all.
AP came out and apologized to us all, that is good enough for me and I will wait and see what he decides now is the best for the club.

| I believe it's the attitude if the players at our club that needs changing not the full team. Iv never seen so much over inflated egos on a pitch before. Let's face it the only players in the FC team that has a realistic chance of knocking on the international door at the minute are lineham shaul and crooks. That's got to say something to the highly paid pros in our side. They could learn a thing or two from the youth set up.

| Sandow is a good player, but the size of his wedge was a big factor in Kearney/Parra's woes. Can't see him walking away from that for little, so it's a lot of money Salford have tied up in the halves. See how much they have left to put good players around them in the next few years.

As for Sandow, they don't need him with Fages as back up. Chase, Smith and Sandow would be too good to have one missing out each week.
We need a back rower and Con Mika isn't going to cut it with the fans. We need quality and preferably an impact player. Who that could be I don't know. Not so much an impact player but with Wakey in trouble, AP should offer money for Kirmond he had a great season last season. Gives 100% every game and would be more effective than any of our back rowers from this season.'"
Salfords recruitment for 2015 is already well underway and if the Doc is to be believed there will be some big names coming.
The likes of Morley,Meli and TP have all been brought in to guide us through what will be a tough year.Their experience is what we will need to gel all the new signings and to work with the good young forwards we have coming through the ranks.
Not convinced Sandow will be coming but will be interesting to say the least if he does.

Melbourne Storm have been doing exactly that for a few years.A huge chunk of their Cap is used to keep Smith,Slater and Cronk. The reason they couldnt keep Widdop was because of Cap restrictions. They then fill in the rest of the team with average NRL talent,Veterans like Rose who they have just signed from Manly, and up and coming youngsters who wont be on big money.
Now i am not saying that is what Salford are trying to do but it is a proven model.

It's a proven model within reason. The NRL also has a bigger cap than us, as well as much bigger sponsorship deals and certain exemptions. For you just to match Sandow's salary you'd be in the region of £300k. If Chase is then on even 2/3rds of that you've already gone through nearly 1/3rd of your cap on 2 players, and for a number of years.
Also remember that whilst Melbourne might have been doing it for a few years, they were conveniently ignoring the cap for most of it.

Its all relative.Yes they have a higher cap but there wages are also a lot higher.Smith,Slater and Cronk account for well over $2 million of a $5.1 million salary cap and those are figures since the cap breaking scandal. That figure will rise to around $2.7 million if and when Smiths new contract is done.Thats over half of the cap on just 3 players. They also have a minimum wage of $75K to contend with.
I actually agree with you that Sandow and his wages would be insane for Salford but the Melbourne situation is just an example model of how you can utilise your cap and still make it work.

And that's my point. I'm not disagreeing with the model, it's pretty much how Leeds also seem to work & it suits them fine. My point was purely that you can't do it with wages that high. Paying out top-end NRL wages and then 2 or 3 more SL high earners is asking for trouble.

| If Salford do not break the cap next year i will be shocked. The doc as just about said he will, as for the doc could have bigger fish to fry when he buys oldham athletic. We all know he really wanted a football club. If he does buy them maybe salford will be something of a inconvenience.
