The problem with this constant strategy of sacking the coach is that some of the long term "club hull" players are now on effectively their 4th chance at the club (Radford, Last, Hodgson and potentially Smith) when it should be some of them being shown the door. Another year of having it easy whilst the new coach beds in and works out the problems at the club

Pearson did give Hodgson a shot by bringing in the loan signings and clearing the decks to get Hoy early (only for Pongia's concussion to scupper that) and then signed Smith. We tried to sort 2022 out but it just didn't happen aside from winning at Magic.

Yes Smith does spit his dummy out but even if he does that a year or two down the line I think its likely we will be in a better place. Even though 2022 didnt end well for Rovers he's still left a good foundation for the next coach.

Could be a possibility players are paid off, if they don't step onto the field they don't go on the cap, but it is of course wasteful to do that particularly when the club is short of funds.

As much as people want change, bringing in a temp coach isnt the answer.

I think it's a smart move, our next big appointment needs to the benefit one, getting Smith in for a year or so allows us to choose the right man and have some input from a very experienced rugby man.

I'd back us to finish top 6 next year with Smith in charge next year.

Looks like he has gone , most the payers kmow already if not all of them . Smith to me is the obvious choice anyway , been crying out for a established coach for years instead of assistants .

if smith takes over,we will be relegated next season.no lover of hodgson,but he has a 39% win ratio with us.smith had a 33% win ratio with the dobbins.he might have been a good coach years ago but thats history.we might as well get his big brother brian smith back.now there was a decent coach.

You need to factor in that in 2020 there wasn't any relegation due to Toronto dropping out so Rovers played a risky attacking style instead of grinding out results. In 2021 he got them to 80mins from the Grand Final.

Said that myself to rovers fans , he didn’t play that way at other clubs , and also rovers lack of good props meant they played the way they have , off the cuff . Doubt we’d play the same way rovers have , if smith comes .

A bit of a weird thing, why not give him the chance, he has won multiple trophies including 2 grand finals who would you rather have Hodgson, a failed coach with no other experience?

And who else realistically would want to come? money is tight so i'm not sure we could even poach another SL coach and we've tried and failed with assistants before

Totally agree, easily the best option that is available and realiatic, maybe Mcguire, but that's it, we can't afford to take a risk on an assistant, Saints also after a new coach, but they can afford to take a risk, we can't.

have watched Hoy a few times last couple of months he is a tidy player but not as good as conner in the 1 shirt with the same defensive failings .. i also doubt he is the 7 we need as his kicking for goal is average i doubt kicking for field position is any better . imo Truman is a lot better player when fit

try to come to an agreement if not loan them out or trade them ? think a few clubs might gamble on houghton n taylor for a year ? offer them to wakey exchange for murphy

I think if it is Smiffy it would be a good move for the short term.
At least he knows something about the game. I hope he would get a free reign to wield the rod where needed.
We have a great future with our youngsters coming through, but we need our first team to be right for them to full fill their potential.

I know I go on about this folks but almost two days have passed since one of the most tragic and humiliating defeats I can remember at the end of a shocking season and we hear nothing from the hierarchy, not an apology, not an attempted explanation, not a hope for the future, not even a string of excuses. Just as Humberside found out last night an abject 'No Comment' We have to get this sorted as best we can, that is an imperative but then, in my opinion, we should as a club have a close look at our communication and interaction with the fans for there are a lot of people contacting me who have just had enough whoever comes in as Coach. There are a lot of bridges to re-build here.

He did it with a pretty ordinary squad as well. He would not be my first choice but we desperately need a change so I would welcome his appointment.

Smith is a proven head coach something we've been crying out for for years. He is familiar with the culture of Rugby in the city and knows how demanding our fan base is.

From what I've been told Hodgson is a very good technical coach but because of his nature finds it hard to discipline players who step out of line. Those players have undermined him and should have no future at the club. I cannot see Smith standing for such nonsense.

If the club is going to have the shake up which sounds inevitable at this point then I would much rather have an experienced coach overseeing the transition then one who has two seasons as a Head Coach under their belt. No dig at Hodgson but we are desperate for some inspiration from someone who has been there and done it. Smith for a year, bringing in McNamara from 2024 with Smith moving to Head of Rugby would be more then ideal for me.

If Hodgson leaves, who would you go for? I'm not trying to be sarcastic just interested.
