Bit of a mixed bag for me. We certainly looked more fluid with the ball but I'm not sure how much of that was down to us getting quicker PTB than we've had due to widnes having a weakened side. Stats are massively in our favour - around 30% more possession and 70% more metres gained - but I don't think we really took full advantage of that and we still struggle to open up defences when in their 20 metre zone. It looked to me early on that we thought it was going to be a cakewalk and it took us a while to get into the game properly plus we were guilty of over playing things at times

Agree. That shot he put on the centre in the first half was brilliant and saved a near certain try. If Carlos is out long term, can see us reverting back to Michaels and Fonua on the right edge, with Connor still on the bench as he offers so much versatility. Just makes me laugh how every time Michaels takes the ball in, he always gets up hobbling or holding something. Puts his body on the line every time he pulls on the shirt.

Yes they had players missing but they were never in it to be fair ,we did a job got the result and thats all what matters. Like every side this season they came to disrupt most was cynical and the ref let far to many head shots go unpunished .Green was great along with Mini and Kelly and Sneyd will get even better

Happy with the result overall, but let them score a very scrappy second try. Surprised no one has mentioned Griffins defence, or is it just me? Seemed to be targeted a lot, not staying in line with the rest of the players and quite a bit of shirt pulling by him. Decent game from him but he'll definitely be targeted throughout the season as his defence is certainly his weakness.

I thought Green was great. Last year our middle spell could be wobbly but last night the interchanges of Green, Ellis and Washy made us look solid and tidy.

Things got a bit weird when Kelly went off and Ellis was swapping sides, Washy at centre and Connor on, but we had the game won by then.

Average gain 11.6m for Green.

Agree about griffins defence although thought he showed what a handful he can be in attack last night. Hopefully yeamo can help his defence improve. Makes you relise just how good yeamos technique was when you see Griffin sometimes struggle to put man down.

Kelly is the best half back we have had at the club for years and my constant mithering as you put it about the fact we needed a specialist 6 is proving to be correct.
What i said in my post was teams will target Kelly because its where all our danger comes from at the moment.
Without Kelly against Catalan we were poor.
He was our only real attacking danger against St Helens
When he went off last night we did nothing.
Thats what i mean when i said its a worry when one player can be so influential to our performance that teams will undoubtedly target him.

I am really hurt by the criticism i receive on here from some posters like ccs so i dare not criticise Griffin whos overall play in his early days with the club has flattered to deceive but he is defensively weak for such a big player.
If you watch his attempt to tackle Heremaia it was not just poor it was pathetic
Its his achilles heel and was pointed out by several Salford supporters when he signed for us but you normally take their comments with a pinch of salt because they are losing a player but they are correct from what we have seen so far.

We were poor against Catalans due to awful discipline and ball retention not purely Kelly's absence.
When he went off last night the game was already won.
We had the 3rd best attack in the league last year without a genuine 6 and it's early days.
All teams have influential players that can be targeted, that's sort of how it works. Investing all that energy in "worrying" about it is your choice, obviously, won't make any difference. Personally I just look forward to seeing him play.

Thought Widnes put up a good effort for the first half. Be interesting to see how they get on when they get some of their injured players back.
Kelly was sublime. Easily NRL standard. Fonua also impressed with his go forward. Can't wait to see how we go when the grounds firm up.
