We've already established that Burnett was the only other option. So what tactical benefit would have been gained by having him in the 17? Maybe he could have come on for Tickle and kicked two drop goals?

Tickle and Fitz are 80 minute men, Manu got a rest when he needed it, and the decision to play Houghton for the full 80 was more than justified by his performance, so nothing was to be gained by having Burnett instead of Hall. It annoys we when people try to find faults with Agar that just aren't there.

FWIW, I agree with uncle junior. Great comeback win, however I reckon you come back from 20 points down against saints once every sheffield flood. Yes we won, yes it was great to win, however we were pretty lucky in the end, particularly with the injury to roby. Had he stayed on I doubt we'd have picked up the points. Likewise I was very please to see fozzard on the bench instead of puletula.

Far too many people getting carried away by a last minute win against an injury ravaged saints side on our own "island"

Having said that, the only thing that matters is the 2 points which we have. Need to improve and get more consistent from here

O'Meley went off injured not long after Roby, in the middle of his 2nd spell which is usually when he's at his most dangerous. I suspect that equally Saints were very pleased to see Hall on the bench instead of Lauaki.


Why shouldn't people savour a win like that? Games with that amount of expansive play, crunching hits and 78th minute winning drop goals are there to be replayed and remembered. I'm not denying Saints were injury ravaged, but we were missing Berrigan, Horne, Lauaki and Calderwood.

I really enjoyed it last night and you are quite right that everything is not rosy but it would take a very pessimistic fan to suggest things are not looking rosier.

After the Quins Magic weekend game I was absolutely livid with what we were being dished up and whilst things are far from perfect there are some really positive signs emerging.

We threw the ball around a fair old bit last night with real confidence and after some of the one out dross in recent times it was really refreshing.

It is also great to see our pack that was talked up so much pre-season starting to show exactly why ths was. They really pummelled their saints counterparts at times in that second half and saints forwards (graham aside) had no answer to it.

The emergence and developments of Moa and Houghton in recent weeks has been another real bonus for us too.

we still have some influential players to come back and have some fairly winnable games coming up so cementing a place in the top 4, which will be tough given leeds recent improvements, is actually looking a possibility.

I am still terrified that Long gets injured though because he is irreplaceable and the difference with him in the team to when he isnt is vast.

All in all a great night last night and one to savour.

Very true. It's not just what he does directly himself, it's that other players are anticipating him creating something and putting themselves in the right places, thereby improving our chances of converting any opportunities.

Yea there was a guy behind me doing it aswell "Get agar out hes crap" "we cant do what saints do were rubbish" we tried pointing out to him that the only real attacking oppertunity in the 1st half we had we scored from and that bentham was killing us with penalty after penalty but he wouldent have it. PS his face was very red and he was very quiet at the end of the game.

This is getting rather tiresome TBH.

All it will take is a narrow win over Salford next week or even gettin g beat by them to reignite (sp?) the old flames.

I think coaches should be judged over the period of a season and not on one game. I was chuffed like anyone we have won last night but I'm still not convinced Agar is the man for the job. Don't forgot we have beaten Saints and then Huddersfield only to go and lose at Crusaders.

By a long way the most simple-minded, factually inacurrate and misguided post I've read on here in a long time.

No not at all Jake , just wondering if a top six finish would make you agree this year had been a sucess or not or are we as a club only sucessful if we win a trophy?? I know many believe it is our right above all other clubs to win something every year minus the squad building etc etc

Na west mate was in line with tickle when he kicked the goal jumped so high i nearly landed in the row in front of me when it went over aswell.

Lets put it another way, if I had been given a better than average team & taken 2 years as a manager to bring them to hit rock bottom & thus failing miserably as a company & at the same time making constant errors & bemoaning the staff around me weren't ones I had employed as an excuse I would be laughed at by my chief exec/directors & told to go forth & multiply & pick my P45 up on the way out!

Whilst sport & team games in particular can be anomolous to this situation it is fair to say a better coach/man manager would have given us better results over the last 2 years. This in turn would have given us a much better playing platform to be successful.
Would I consider a play-off place a success? Actually no i wouldn't, an improvement on the previous years yes but not success.
Ultimately you are judged by your peers on the silverware you win, that is why we hate Leeds & Saints of recent times & Wigan before them.

Agar has had to learn the role of a SL coach of a big team(in terms of support at least) but having been under Kear & Sharpe I also doubt his ability to take himself & the club to another level.

There's no doubt in my mind that there are a number of other coaches out there who could have given us far better results in the past two seasons, even the staunchest Agar backer would struggle to argue that had we appointed Foulkes at the time we appointed Agar we wouldn't have had better results.

It frustrates me that a lot of people would view getting a playoff spot of any kind this year as success, this way of thinking only comes about because Agar has set the bar so appallingly low in his tenure so far.

History will judge the first two and a half years of Agar's tenure, whether people like you and me are completely right in our thinking about the man or if it has been a painful but necessary period of overhaul and rebuilding in order to achieve long-term consistent success. One thing is for certain though, it will take a lot more than a (admittedly hugely impressive) comeback win over Saints to prove anything.

Even I wouldn't say we have to win (or even get to) the Grand Final in order for this season to be considered a success, finishing in the top six and winning at least two playoff games would be enough for me to review my opinion about Agar until the next season at least.
