If he wanted to come off quota he would have to apply to become a british citizen,but due to his length of time here he is now classed as fed trained,which to my understanding means we can bring in an islander etc,but won't allow us an aussie,kiwi as there still quota or something like thaticon_biggrin.gif

berrigan wasnt trained in this country so hes overseas trained.

what i think people maybe meaning is that berrigan was signed before this cut off date which allows overseas trained players with certain passports to get dispensation.

i maybe wrong but the club would have had to registar him before the deadline with his german/eu passport.

as the rumours are saying hes just got this paasport its balls.

the residency rule, which i believe manu to be on, is four years.

applying to be a british citizen would not make him fed trained s he wasnt trained here.

The way I see is that the club have tried to argue that Berrigans 4th year was an extension to his original deal (3yrs + 1yr option) and as he was here before the restrictions on non fed trained players was put in place he should now be exempt like Manu is. If they have been successful and he is now exempt than Hull have the option to bring in any overseas player, if not they can't bring in anyone.

Anyway back too rumours and the last few years the spin doctor rule and agar have been going on about us been on the front foot in terms of recruitment and this season put all our eggs in lms,fielden and missed out on both we are now have too scrath around too see whos left and feel in terms of quality we wont be bringing in the standard of players to take us up too the next level,and feel were goin to be very underwhelmed with the signing we make though im sure rule will spin it and say our focus has been on renetion this year

Berrigan becoming fed-qualified (2008 arrival) would be of no use without him getting a suitable passport, as I understand it. Irish name, German ancestry - might be possible.
The exemptions for Vella, Galea (Maltese) and Newton (British mother, was it?) wouldn't be any use if they only had Australian papers - again, as I understand it. Jake Webster could be fed-trained as he arrived at the same time as Galea and Newton, but there'd be no point any more.

Yeah, thought that's what they brought in. I'd lost track of the fact that next year was the year it should have been down to 5 though, what with all the loopholes malarkey. So you're right, as of next season the quota rule is effectively meaningless.

To be honest, nobody should have expected a big year for signings this time round. You can tell just by who's leaving that their isn't much room on the cap and Cusacks non-fed place is disappearing.
Next year we have Fitz, Lauaki, Moa, Berrigan OOC so potentially 4 spots, add to that Long retiring and a few others OOC I expect big movements.
As i've said before, i can feel a THURST coming on!!
