Strange comments from mcrae on chase. Said something about initially being a loophole in the loan scheme when we were trying to bring him in beofre the deadline and then said that castleford have now put a fee on him (didn't say increased the fee) that meant we're not interested.

It's nothing to do with McRae, I just don't see how a) we'd be interested for so long if we didn't fancy our chances of it coming off; b) we'd now end our interest with no replacement seemingly in sight; and c) Cas would be willing to let him go a few months ago and now not bothered.

As I said, I don't necessarily think it will happen, I simply don't believe that it is entirely dead given that there are no suitable alternatives looking likely. If the visa issue is sorted Cas hold all the cards and we may give in out of desperation.

No inside knowledge, but hazarding some guesses based on available info:

a) We clearly fancied our chances, but things change. Maybe an alternative came up.
b) See above. Just because an alternative isn't obvious doesn't mean there isn't one.
c) A few months ago we were the only game in town. Now there's at least one other club interested. Cas would be crazy not to up their asking price.

This is a perfect example of a no-win situation. If the club say nothing then people moan about being kept in the dark; if they talk about potential signings then they get moaned at if things don't pan out. Personally I prefer less information and more certainty, but that was how the last lot played it and they were roundly condemned for it.

Don't think the Chase affair has been handled very well though.
Hopefully we'll learn lessons.

A) Quite possibly, but I just don't see why we'd genuinely drop our interest unless we have an alternative as you say, and if we do why we wouldn't announce it at the same time.
B) No, but a replacement of the same quality of Chase? There aren't many and I don't see why any club who have one would be willing to part with them.
C) That's right, and I wasn't saying otherwise. I was saying that I still expect them to be willing for him to go, but for more money. As I said in the part of my post you've snipped out, the reason I don't think it is necessarily dead is because I'm not convinced it's about the visa and I think we may get desperate enough to consider paying up.

Maybe our leader has had second thoughts on paying a fee and also paying Brett off? He's not on pennies.

Its all down to the Border Agency He wants to come Cas still want to sell him but he won't get another visa and will have to go home at the end of next season when his current one runs out. Little more the Club can do in my opinion!
