You have a point. Maybe it is all just a stupid rumour or maybe that quote from Brown was made before Hock was linked with us?
Either way, don't you think it is a little strange that, nearly a week after such a high profile signing, Hock himself hasn't once been quoted in the media?

Hock is still officially under suspension and probably prefers to keep his head down until otherwise. If Wigan are saying he has signed a 5 year contract then that is the end of it imo.

So if he is still "officially under suspension", does the RFL actually allow him to sign anything for anyone?

This is the RFL we are talking about so I have no idea but I can see why Hock himself would not want the attention.

If he is still officially suspended then he is not able to sign a player contract. He can [iagree[/i one but he can't sign it as he is not eligible to play RL. What he may have done is put pen to paper on a contract that is post-dated and only comes into force once his suspension ends but I'm not sure how much weight something like that would have in law.

I assume he is still under contract this year at least anyway at Wigan? If so the terms of this contract continues when the suspension is over?

| Move on guys, Hock signed a 5year deal with Wigan and will not be leaving to go to Hull.
He's back in training, and Maguire keeps mentioning how much he's looking forward to picking him. Also in a interview in a magazine at few months back Hock said : "Wigan have stuck by me, so I will always stick by them." Dont sound like a guy thats going to ditch a 5 year deal.
I assume the lack of quote from Hock has something to do with the suspension.

Most of us dismissed this rumour when it first appeared, before any announcement from Wigan. For some reason it just won't die though. Wouldn't surprise me to see it run right up until the point Hock runs out in a Wigan shirt next season.

| Hock will run out in a Wigan shirt this season.
His suspension ends June 23rd 2011 and we play Huddersfield the following night. Whether he's picked remains to be seen.
Not read all this thread, it may have been mentioned though, that rumours suggest eight SL clubs offered him a contract plus it is believed Penrith also did. The highest offer came from you guys. All rumours of course!
As for his signing, Wigan have done everything re Hock since his suspension with the RFL's knowedge and agreement of them, Sport UK and WADA. Hock has signed a deal so it must have been approved by those who have the final say over such matters.
Ian Lenagan runs a completely different style of management than any of his predecessors.

mistake, he isn't worth the money, we need a new 6 and 7 if we want to challenge.

Surely not, although we have had a handful of decent displays by Longy he is never on the pitch

apparently Agar will "leave it to the player", I can imagine it now, "hmmm, should I train when (if) I want, do as I please for another year and trouser £100K+ or retire....."

| No doubt I'll get shot down in flames but personally think Long for another year isn't bad business. If there was an outstanding alternative then fair enough, but there isn't. People will no doubt talk about Cronk, Thurston etc but being realistic they arent going to come. With the new Aussie TV deal and the state of the UK economy then attracting a marquee halfback from overseas is not viable. A much better plan IMO is to try and develop our own halfback, and from what I've seen Williams is on track (or digging further into the youth at the club Wilkinson in the 18's certainly appears to have the talent). Long for an additional year whilst we work on Williams/Wilkinson is not a bad option.

better off playing Horne and Obst, Long is an expensive antique, you can remeniss how great he used to be, but Ginger Rogers was a great dancer, she's now a rotting corpse.

My opinion (and I appreciate it may only be my opinion) is that he has more to offer us than Horney at present. Rich is a top bloke and has ability but personally think Long & Obst would be more effective than Horne & Obst. At least we now have 3 options and dont have to resort to push Washbrook into 6. We even have the option of Turner or Westerman as cover. I do think that we shouldn't be resigning both Horne and Long as front line halves but as I said, I just think Long would add more to the team as long as we can keep him on the pitch.
