Derek's a bit harsh on the referee - thought he let the game flow well. Could be Leigh coloured specs perhaps? I thought Ellis showed some good touches (e.g. setting up the second try) and took his two tries well.

I saw a fair bit of Ellis playing for St Helens Academy when I worked over there, and welcome his signing.

He was never in the same class as Eastmond, Lomax or Gaskell, but showed enough to suggest he could certainly 'do a job' in Super League.

Will provide solid back-up for Hull FC and has some improvement in him.

McKinnon, I am afraid, is a shocking signing!

Great player before his knee reconstruction three or four years ago, but all his pace has gone and now, given his hamstring problems, he has been released early by his last two clubs.

I can only summise that Jack Briscoe isn't going to make it. Was thought better than his brother at the same age a couple of years ago. Would be happy to hear from folk who watch him in the A-team though. Regarding Phelps - he's average isn't he, whos other SL team would he get into at FB - being honest? Forget the top 5, wouldnt oust Mathers either, Patten is class at salford..........Not having a go, a good pro but nothing special.

Good news about Ellis but I would rather it had been kept under wraps until he'd signed. I can see someone coming in and pinching him from under our noses.

As for MacKinnon I'm very unsure about him. Is he any better than Phelps who hasn't really had chance yet to show that he's worth a new deal?

If we was looking at an overseas signing to replace Fitzy, I'd be happy to looking at signing Simon Mannering. Haven't seen much of him lately but if he's anything like he was a couple of years ago, then would be very happy with it.

I am not sure he will, I thought Phelps was getting a new deal. I certainly would not be offering Wade a 3 year deal, no way.

As for Ryan, would rather promote the youngsters, he's been a cracking player but way past his best now.

Paul as far as i am aware Phelps is very highly thought of and to be fair solid as a rock at present so think this is all just huff and puff in the press and phelps is doing just nicely

i agree, could be proved wrong but i doubt it very much... at the end of the day we have spoken to lots of players and agents recently and i think its a case of media wishful thinking...
