I expect to see more of Thompson in the back row than prop this year so he'll be ahead of Turgut. Whiting too depending on how his training has been going.

From what I've read the club are putting an emphasis on the performance of the U19s. I take this to mean that players like Turgut will be focusing on winning with the U19s rather than trying to push ahead of the older players.

Given the injury to Ellis I would give him another week so he is fit for Huddersfield that's more important.
My concern is at left centre.Yeaman had a poor game against HKR and we do need additional pace in the backs, but barring a magnificent debut at Wakefield from Michaels expect Yeaman to start at Huddersfield.
The surprise could be Naughton.Radford mentions him in all his recent interviews.

might be interesting to go into the game without houghton playing at all to see how we would cope if he gets injured during the season

Pros and cons. Houghton's been very good so will clearly be starting. Rest him to protect a key player and assess interchange options or play him to get consistency in the new spine of the team?

Have to say Danny Houghton is looking sharp.Still looping a few passes but we would really miss him if he was injured.
We know what he can do so would rather see Cunningham/Rankin given game time at nine.

We have 2 hookers at the club with SL experience; Cunningham so far has not shown signs he's going to be another Heremaia, so we need a backup. Most sides go with 2 in the 17 now with the emphasis on more speed while opponents tire.
Howarth might not be any good but lets at least let him show us before you consign him to the Hutch Maiava Bin.
