| Its so refreshing to see a wide variety of teams being put forward. The backs seemingly pick themselves at the moment but things can quickly change in that department, we have some talented youngsters chomping at the bit to be given a chance to prove they are worthy of a regular first team spot.
The pack is where there is a wide range of opinion. I however like the idea of bringing in Luauki and Manu(Or Moa) after 20 minutes to exploit a hopefully tiring opposition pack. We have seen the impact Paleasina has when he comes on for Wigan imagine two players with explosive power coming on for us.
We also have the added bonus that some of our forwards are more than capable of putting in 80 minutes should needs arise during a game.
I would like to see Whiting getting plenty of game time this year and if he is not in the starting 13 a place on the bench is a must for a player who can play in a wide range of positions.
You can get by without direct cover for wings and centres on the bench, Berro can move to centre with ease and our centres are more than capable of moving onto the wing if needed to.
We saw last year that our game is starting to be more forward orientated again and i think Agar has addressed that with the players he has brought in.

Only going for 1 prop on the bench I'm tired of that tactic. We have the players now to have more running/line breaking options on the bench rather than more die in the tackle players. Was soooooooooo boring having 4 props and Radford ( another prop imo) at 13 last year YAWN

Can't split those three for the 17 shirt, Houghton is very effective coming on and running at tired defences, however I would argue that Berro should be an 80 minute man. Turner has the utility value and has apparantly been ripping up trees in training but he's unproven. He's looked promising whenever I've seen him but then again you can count the number of times I've seen him on one hand. Whiting is the most experienced and is very reliable, but isn't quick enough to be a top class back and not big enough for a top forward.

If Horney isn't on form I'd play Washbrook at 6 and put Turner or Whiting at 13.
Sod the negative choices we've had at loose man, let's go for something more adventurous.

I agree totally, however i think Agar sees his full back as the extra ball handler rather than his 13.

Closest to my team so far! Would just swap some of the bench/starting 13 around, and have Tickle instead of Moa.
BUT I do think we might see less of Tickle this season.

| I think I will pick after the friendlies, too many times in the past its been said that players have been ripping it up in training to end up disapointed with performances just hope Agar picks on form (thinking of players like Danny Houghton) then as long as the effort is there I for one will be happy

| Think I would go with
1) Tansey
2) Calderwood
3) Yeamo
4) Turner
5) T Briscoe
6) Horne
7) Long
Cusack
9) Berro
10) O'Meley
11) Fitz (capt)
12) Manu
13) Washy
14) Lauaki
15) Moa
16) Whiting
17) Burnett
Going for power upfront. Constant 'big men' with Burnett and Lauaki both able to cover prop and 2nd rower.
Whiting covers back positions
not going for 2 hookers (as new thing done by saints to accommodate roby and Cunningham yet every one followed!!)
Washy can always go to Hooker
Although cant see Agar being bold enough not to use Radders or Dowes.

| I also agree I would love to see manu played in the centre his strong wide running and great off loads would destroy most sl flanks! I dont think Agar will ever do this though

It's an OK option as emergency cover but dont think it's a great move if i'm honest. We have skillful creative players like Hall, Turner, Whiting and Yeaman to play centre if T Briscoe is going to play on the wing. From a balance of the team perspective i think we get far more benefit from using 2 of those 4 in the centres and using Manu as the impact 2nd row. Manu and Yeaman for example down a channel given good ball would put the fear of god into most defences... if given good ball. Thats what it all comes down to for me.

Seriously I agree with you completely Manu in the second row however he does offer reasonable cover in the centre when the inevitable injury crisis hits in MArch.

Not to the scale it is today. Cunningham got injured and Roby did such a good job that they started spelling the hookers. Now most teams sub the hooker. Before that teams never really went with 2 specialist hookers.
Lee Jacko and Swainy never needed subbing.
To carry 2 Hookers we colud play Berro at 6, Horne at Fullback and move Tansey to centre with Turner moving to the bench as cover.

Infact, the whole team is dependant on pre-season form. If Dowes has a stormer but Cusack is poor then obviously those two would swap places etc.
