I can't recall any bans that have started in the future? Banning for a length of time rather than number of games makes sure he can't dwindle them down using internationals and pre-season friendlies. Gallen was also banned recently for 3 months, but will only miss around 7 games IIRC - you can't apply a future ban, that's ridiculous.

IMO he has been given adequate punishment. He'll miss alot of games in that 6-month period, including those playing for Wales and the World Club Challenge., he's been plastered all over the national media and has let his fans/team mates down in ultimately cost them the grand final. And people are still baying for more blood.

I still think that there should have been a separate charge for bringing the game into disrepute which this incident undoubtedly has done. The incident is even being officially debated in class at in my kids' school down here in the midlands where Rugby League isn't actually at the forefront of peoples' minds normally. The debate is along the lines of whether the game allows players to legally assault others.

They could have similar debates about football (two-footed leg breaking tackles, biting etc), Union (eye-gouging, fighting), Ice Hockey, Boxing, UFC etc.

Will that extra charge actually achieve anything further to whats already been done? I'm not sure it will. Flower must be in a horrible place right now and the media attention alone is enough to deter incidents from happening in the future.

There could be an argument that more people will now tune into RL through curiosity than will turn away from the sport due to the attention it's had.

It's possible that they already do. Most of the things you mention there also happen in League.



It would be a way of showing that the game as a whole will not tolerate individuals dragging it through the mud in this way. Not a further match ban but instead some sort of 'community order' within the game where he goes around schools for 12 months explaining why it's unacceptable to behave in the way he did either on or off the field. Maybe that will help him emerge from this 'horrible place' that he's put himself in.

He would of got 3 for first punch so technically got 10 for second punch. Plus The game sent off in. Plus he's had to face his team mates after effectively destroying their seasons work. Plus will be tarred for rest of his career by it.
I'd of punched him for the elbow. Most would. I'd like to think I'd have more about me regarding the second punch. That was dumb. But then how would I know? I've never played in front of 70 odd thousand in a super league final in a derby.
