I personally think if the Chase deal is still possible, we should hang in and not walk away if it passes a certain "deadline".

The reality is he is a fantastic player who is exactly what we need to go up a level. Talk of a "plan B" is fanciful, given the impossibility of attracting good NRL players, a genuine realistic alternative simply does not exist. We would be better off sticking with what we have and biding our time. We have already improved our half backs for next year, something that none of our competitors have done, the reverse actually in some cases.

Jacob Miller is captaining West Tigers and playing half, imo he's not the player we need for 2013.

He's an organising player with a decent kicking game and a fair turn of pace but he doesn't take the line on enough and he hasn't the "x factor" what we need. Don't get me wrong I'd look at him if we hadn't have signed Holdsworth but we have.

Thoughts on Ewan Dowes please. I gather he has finished his stint in lower grade RL in Australia and is heading back (or is back) in UK. Now he could just have been out there having a good time so may have lost his fitness level but I just wondered if he would make a decent squad prop.

I seem to recall that he was OK if not outstanding with you and I dont ask the question in the knowledge that Widnes are even interested, just that experienced props are thin on the ground.

The thing about Dowes is we never really saw him play "his" game, I think he is probably a better player than we saw at Hull, he was just a plodding prop, hope he goes well if he's coming back.

Doews played well when supported by Carvell and King but not a line breaker by any stretch of the imagination

Dowes was very good for us around 2005 when he was with the likes of Carvell, Thacks and King, as he could be the workhorse, as we got worst he looked less and less effective.

If you want a solid prop with excellent defence who can play lots of minutes, Dowes would a decent player.
