Not sure what your post is about, [ugenerally[/u most adults like a few drinks, obviously we are not all professional athletes. I agree not all of them know how to behave. Alcohol can mix as long as it is done in moderation most adults be it sports professionals or not know this.

Are you really that niave that you believe a player's ability isn't a consideration when it comes to whether or not he is sacked or kept.

| I'm assuming everyone calling for his head have the full facts? What if the outcome of any investigation is that there is no case to answer?
Not saying it's likely, just that people may be being a bit quick to 'have a go' at both Aspinwall and the club.

I know clubs do it but what sort of code does this send to youngsters?
The way you put it is that you agree.
It's a good job Ian Huntley was never awarded caretaker of the year.

If this was an isolated signing of ill-repute and a one-off incident, I'd agree. Fact is we have multiple "previous" on this front and I'm fecking sick of it.

it does seem that way, most thought it was a poor signing/not needed so its an easy target to go for
from what i heard, he wasnt the only 'naughty fc player' over the weekend

So it seems.
OK - consumption of quantities of alcohol way too great to be good for health is pretty rife. The phrase 'like a few' - in the way that it's normally used - IMO trivialises this fact. Pro athletes have more reason than most to avoid alcohol as it has some fairly extensive effects on human physiology and interferes with fitness/recovery in relatively small quantities. Hence my comment about it not mixing well.

You appear to be confusing 'like a few' with getting 'ed', 'legless', 'a@rsholed' and 'p!ssed'.

Very true, Harry Rednapp was quite critical of the English way of celebrating after his FA cup win at Portmouth.

You know what he meant and its slightly different to Ian Huntley don't you think?
IN any event, I know what you are saying, but the message to the youngsters should be that if you are a bit average, then do not under any circumstances eff up, and aim to get better. If you are a lot better and eff up, you might get away with it.

| According to the Club Statement...
'Hull FC have suspended Martin Aspinwall pending an internal....'
Regardless of what Aspinwall may have done, you have to admire Adam Pearson for his intention to carry out a full, thorough investigation!

I think we could and should be able to. We are paying them to be professional sportsmen. It is there only job to perform to their utmost best for the team and adapt their lifestyle to this affect.
If they know this before they sign we could kick out this culture completely. If they drink at all they lose a weeks wages as they are knowingly affecting their performance and unless they are top of the table they have scope to improve.
I'm only an amateur sportsman but wouldn't dream of drinking during endurance training blocks and haven't for the last 6-7 weeks.
In my experience when I've been at my fittest and performing at a high level I don't really fancy the thought of pints of beer. Maybe there's something in that......

| Disappointing, but hardly surprising.
In an ideal world you wouldn't have any players with reputations for excessive drinking or criminal behaviour in the squad. Realistically however, when considering signings, it is necessary to try to balance what a player can bring for you on the pitch with the level of risk they pose off it.
On that basis, Seymour was arguably worth the gamble. Aspinwall never was in a million years.
Where I agree with Sheldon is that, once the players are part of the club, you don't want to be seen making the same distinction. Again though, I can see how in reality doing that becomes almost inevitable.

| That was exactly my point Garry.
It happens but it shouldn't, Smiggs was implying it should be the code of conduct.
It makes me wonder if the club implement media and social training, some of the comments on twitter makes me think otherwise, a night out for the players differs to ours immensely from male and female attention both positive and negative.
When fans and players say the should be able to celebrate or commiserate after the game with a few (to many) beers I disagree and so does Wayne Bennett.
