I was surprised at the initial reaction. I thought there’d be a wider range, based on previous experience. While, as has been pointed out a few times, this isn’t the worst thing ever, it still belongs somewhere on the spectrum of bad things.

Carney served an 8 match ban for racially abusing an opponent, which seems broadly proportionate for such a serious offence. Salford released him a couple of weeks later and he served out the rest of the ban with Rovers. He behaved badly, was punished and then resumed his career.

From what we’ve seen, it looks to me that Kelly has behaved badly, should probably be punished and can then get on with things. Like anybody, he deserves a chance to explain himself to his employer. In any case, the circumstances are different to Carney’s situation and any punishment should reflect that. As far as i’m aware, sexist abuse is not covered by the same legislation as racist abuse, so there’s an arguable case for it being viewed less seriously, and also it didn’t happen in a game so the responsibility falls to the club rather than the RFL. Without significant mitigation, to me a proportionate response would be something like a fine, a warning, an apology and, possibly, get him to attend a relevant course - alcohol awareness, anger management or similar. I disagree with those who believe that a quiet word from Radford would, by itself, be sufficient or send the right signal and those who think that it’s not even really worthy of attention. That some are offering joking validation is somewhat dismaying. I know ribaldry is part of our tradition, and there’s undoubtedly a comedic element to his behaviour - but in a laugh at rather than laugh with way.

Anyway, I shall say no more about it here. I even promise.

On the drug dealer thing, obviously with everything that comes with it in current circumstances it is both very serious and different to use, especially given the involvement of organised crime groups. However, if the trade was regulated, rather than illegal, like that for some other potentially harmful things, such as alcohol, tobacco, and (more relevantly to the US) firearms, i’d regard the trade as somewhere in amongst those. One for the Sin Bin, innit? I don’t think UK gun laws should be relaxed, btw.

I’m pretty hard-line on player conduct. They don’t just represent their club, but the game as a whole. I don’t want people thinking RL players go around getting -faced, calling women sluts and whores and threatening to assault them.
I feel we have to take a hard-line against such behaviour.

Albert Kelly has called a woman a slut and a whore purely based on the fact she’s a woman. He’s then threatened to assault her.
If the club do nothing, they are saying this behaviour is acceptable.

Only just noticed on second viewing that a Police officer walks past at the end of the video, surely if the staff felt so threatened theyd have shouted him over, instead of just videoing for social media?

He’s used abusive language that is driven by the fact it’s a female who is serving him. The words ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ are most definately terms of sexist abuse.
He’s also threaten to assault her, which isn’t sexist.
There’s a difference between behaving like a tool and subjecting someone to sexist and derogatory abuse. His behaviour falls into the latter category in my view.
As to whether it’s a crime, I think that’s debatable too. Legally, assault is deemed to be when “a person performs an act by which they intentionally or recklessly causes another person to apprehend immediate unlawful violence”. I could easily argue that he assaulted her by saying he would “put her on the concrete”.
It’s also a criminal offence to use “threatening, abusive or insulting words within the hearing of someone likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress by them.” Again, I could argue that this is the case here.
So.... crime of the century? No. Potentially illegal? Yes.

Jesus don't think I've ever seen so much sock filling.
He's been a bell end and if the footage is genuine (as in fairly recent) then no doubt he will be dealt with internally by the club. This will be no different to how any other club would deal with it.

As for Hull FC fans being accused of condoning Kelly I've not read anyone condoning his behaviour whatsoever all say pretty much the same in disapproving his behaviour. Shame the sad sock filling brigade can't grasp this instead of trying to be the moral compass of RL!!!

Some really pathetic Rovers fans out there, I seen some take their time to write to the HDM about this and tagging the RFL and anti doping agency on Twitter. I know they don't like him, but trying to ruin a mans career, the double standards as they have spent all week talking about mental health of players, then they do this.

One good thing is they will be probably help us get him signed on for at least another season.

The club will undoubtedly have to be seen to take some action as it flies in the face of everything coming from pearson and radford about behavior and culture. Certainly nothing overly serious and I'm more bothered about the state he's got in during the season than what he's drunkenly mumbled.

Does always amaze me that professional sportsmen put themselves in the position to be compromised like that. Never mind the fact that that amount of alcohol consumption can't be good for an athletes body.

Personally Dave I don't really care about Kelly he's not our player so doesn't concern me but blaming Rovers fans for trying to ruin his career is a bit OTT he's only got himself to blame for all this but while he's doing the business on the pitch the majority of fans won't be bothered he had these sort of incidents when he was with us and it caught up with him in the end as you could see how unfit he was

They will be fuming even more when we announce his new three year contract.
