I don't need to read the link. Having watched him over the years I know he is a hooker who can play 7, a bit like Berro. We need an out and out half back not a makeshift one.

Manu and Tony may well not count so we could sign another two and keep either Moa or Cusack.

Tony Gene? New Zealands tournament took off when Fien went to sh and leuleuai went to hooker. Good kicker and a good organiser, exactly what you need, and for that reason you will probably not sign him.

Where

"home grown" = any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service with same club

same federation = any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service with other clubs within UK for UK SL clubs or France for Catalans etc.

overseas quota = as per current rules i.e. anyone unable to prove origins within EU or Kolpak countries.

and

"overseas trained" = any other player.

Tony doesn't want another contract... he wants to go back to the NRL

cant see many nrl teams rushing to sign him he hasnt played for ages .

its not what he said in a programme this season, think he wants to stay should we offer him a new contract

It seems obvious to me that the injury is more of an issue than we being told, he has been out for a very long time and I doubt he'll come back as the same player. I hope I am wrong, but sentiment should not get in the way.

I read that programme, IIRC it was worded quite carefully. It didn't actually say that staying was his first wish, just that he was easy-going and would be happy to stay. Given that the previous stance seemed to be an adamant NRL return , I wonder how much the thinking has been altered by his injuries and their possible impact on the likelihood of a decent NRL offer.

As I said earlier, the very minimum I would want from Tony is to be injury free for the remainder of the season, if he can't manage that then I would get rid.

So there's room for another 4 overseas trained so far then (allowing for Lauaki getting approved)? 2 of which will need to be non-quota, and potentially Tony on top.

I agree, although TBH I'd be inclined to replace him if a decent fullback became available anyway.

The rules you quote say up to 8 in total don't they? I'd go with:

5 quota - Berrigan, Lauaki, Fitzgibbon, scrum-half, destructive prop or full back

Non-quota - Manu, Moa, destructive prop/fullback or centre

I couldn't give 2 hoots TBH.
