Don't know how concrete that is, but he'd be a decent pick up.
Can cover backrow, 9 and 6 at a push.

| Salford Red Devils' fire sale about to start. They've accepted a bid for forward Jack Ormondroyd.
Matthew Shaw.

Probably but I doubt we are wanting to pay fees for players. The media are calling the Salford situation it ‘selling’ players but I doubt there’s much in the way of transfer fees being offered, Ackers and Croft went for 150K last year without the special
measures. I don’t think they have any assets close to being as valuable as those 2 now, and it’s been made public that they need 800K off the wage bill it’s definitely a buyers market can’t see anyone going for anywhere near 100K.

Would a player swap work ? For me that’s a yes
[/quote:2qm8yqqh]
Impossible at the minute because Salford are banned from registering players.
Even if that changed realistically don’t think swaps would work for anyone but especially Hull based players. Salford already have the lowest wage bill in the competition and need to cut 800k, contracted players from other clubs won’t want to take a huge pay cut, especially relocating from Hull.

| [quote="Marcus's Bicycle":3khv2tou]If the quota exemption is implemented does anyone think we should be in for Lafai?
His contract expires at the end of this season so I would guess there's no need for a multi year deal. Hasn't got the pace of Cross but he's a far better player and we were interested last season.[/quote:3khv2tou]
Salford have three of the best centres in S/L
I would take any one of them above Cross if they became available under an exemption
Lafai is a wings dream centre and would be great alongside Martin and Barron. No slower than Hardaker of Chamberlain but we do need some pace at centre so my choice would be Marsters.

What makes you think that your new owners would want to pay a transfer? They didn't offer one for Liam Byrne did they.

Out of interest…How do you know they wouldn’t?..and how do you know they never offered one for Byrne..or even if we actually were in for him.

| From John Davidson:
[i:2q489b2n]King has revealed that there is a group still interested in buying the Red Devils with talks progressing but concedes if a takeover is not completed before Tuesday, January 21, then the club will be forced to sell its stars.
“We’re waiting for an offer to come through on Saturday," he said.
“It is promising, we’re expecting an offer in the next few days and then it’s a case of how quickly we can move on that. We have to get approval from the CBS board at that point, and then we’ll move forward on that.[/i:2q489b2n]
Matt Shaw also mentioned SL clubs are meeting on Wednesday to discuss cap and quota dispensations.
Probably won't see any major moves until the week after you'd imagine

They offered £100k but he wants to stay over there so is going to wire in 2026 for free

Let's hope they get some investment. The sport can't afford to have clubs go to the wall

Paying a transfer fee wasn't going to get Byrne out of Wigan for 2025 anyway - the club doesn't need the money so no reason to start the year a prop short.

| Not sure we need Shorrocks, can't see where he would fit in.
If the quota rule comes in I'd go for Marsters, as could also play 6 and strengthens the centre position too, believe we made him an offer before he signed for Salford.
Him and Cross would be very good business.
Could we fit that under the cap though, as couldn't use the 3rd marquee.

Shorrocks is the bench 13 with a bit of versatility. Balmforth, Ashworth, Shorrocks & Aydin would be our bench

Rather have Holmes or Staveley there personally.

| I wonder if we will make a move for Lam for 2026, I'd offer him a big 2 year marquee contract before he probably joins the new NRL PNG team.

Quota place and not convinced he is the right character.
Big advantage of Lam is non quota be could be a non fed marquee.
Wouldn't suprise me if Hastings becomes available mid season if he doesn't get in the first grade, something not right there if Gamble, Cogger and Crossland are playing before him.

| I don't mind Shorrocks. He's a ball playing forward and could be a decent interchange for Asiata. Agree with Dave that I'm not sure we do exactly 'need' him but if he is available and we can fit him in while still picking up a centre and hopefully a half, then I'd welcome him gladly.
Asiata is likely to pick up knocks here and there so we need a solid replacement and Shorrocks plays the game more like Asiata than somebody like Fash does.

Totally destined for Super League sooner rather than later.
Think there’s only Salford where he hasn’t fell out with someone.

| I do wonder if the Salford sale will be as bad as people think, let's say they sell
Sneyd
Watkins
Mcdonald
Cross
Ormondroyd
That wouldn't be far off 800k with transfer fees and salary, investors come in and rebuild. They could still put out a competitive side with a few loans.
I'd be tempted to see if anyone wants Rowley too, as he will be a big salary and already moving upstairs next year.

| Just read the interview with Salford's Paul King and he's hopeful that they will get an offer of investment through today to avoid any fire sale.

I guess it would depend on where the investment is coming from and if any due diligence is required
