Fair comment this, but as much as I don't rate Agar, I was actually pleased with the passion from him at the time. I think hindsight is a wonderful thing, but in the heat of the moment fair play I say. I would like to have seen more passion though from the man throughout, but such is life I guess.

I saw his arm in the air on Friday and thought we'd got the penalty but think he just held it up for a while as it was last tackle (didn't see that much on Friday as the bloke in front of me jumped on his seat as soon as it happened

Fair comments about Agar, but as I was leaving the ground on Friday night I did mention to my wife that I hoped Agar would have the balls to tell it like it was regarding the officiating of the match. Childs performance was so poor that it almost left Agar with no option than to slam the referee and I truly believe that Agar's reaction in the post match press conference was justified.

I now find it almost laughable that Agar is in bother for breaking the "REPECT" code or whaterever the RFL want to call it this week. When are the RFL going to respect not only coach's and players opinions and safety, but also the opinion of FANS. By taking no action against Child and sweeping it under the carpet and hoping that we will all forget about it, the RFL have managed to make this fan feel utterly disrespected as if feels that the RFL just feel that we are dumb c**ts that will accept anything.

Sky did seem to think he's reversed the penalty on boots n all so maybe they saw it differently.

Yes I heard that I think that was a bit of a Cullenism - ie Hull should have had the penalty but in the end Cas got it.

Far be it from me to defend Child

but he was let down badly on 2 occasions by the same touch judge who first ran on and reported a high tackle on Lauaki (Child actually signaled this in one of the rare moments he signaled anything) when it was clearly a bad and deliberate choke tackle (sin bin) and also when he failed to see Long's head snapped back in the dash for the line at the end.

Wait until the full facts come out and you might change your opinion.

As per usual it's a combination of incompetent officiating, not just the referee. I'm not even sure what touch judges really do in the modern game. They definately don't come on the pitch as much as they did in the 80s for example. I know they are linked by radio now but what do they really do.

Our game definately needs investment in officiating as a number 1 priority, far more important than expanding the game for me.

After what I witnessed on friday night, I would pretty much understand (not condone) anything Agar did or said to Child, as long as he didn't buy him a pint

I suspect he might be off the Christmas card list too.

Unless it's one of those where Agar cuts letters out of newspapers to spell the words. Hope he remembers to wear gloves otherwise he might get caught out like they do on the films!!

As you say, they are mic'd up, so there's not so much need for them to enter the field, they can communicate by radio.

TJs are still under the instruction of the referee and their input will depend on what the referee seems appropriate. By all means criticise TJs for missing an offence but remember, if they've seen it, they may have been instructed to do nothing but verbally report it over the radio

Ok, i'm happy to keep blaming Child then!!



As an aside, i'm interested in your view of the future of refereeing. Do you agree it needs serious investment?

That for me is a big issue that brings us back to the ref. Surely the officials are there to uphold the laws of the game, not ignore offences because the man who can run around a bit more (rather than just up and down) decides that?

Totally understand your frustration we have had James Child at MM and at your place on Friday and the guy has me pulling my hair out. However the respect campaign has been going for some time and it was put in place to ensure a safe and resectable environment in which to play and watch RL be that at amateur or professional level.

Having been involved with Junior and youth rugby for a number of years we have to teach players parents coaching staff and spectators how to operate within the Respect banner. How can I tell an 8 year old that he is not allowed to rant and rave at a referee if he see's a professional doing it.

Agar is paid enough to know that he should act in a professional manner at all times and any complaints should be made in the correct manner, even in the most trying of situations (otherwise known as being at a game Mr Child ref's)

Quite agree with what you say, but respect has to work both ways. It could be argued that both Hull FC and Castleford where not shown respect/professionalism by the official in charge, or by the people who continue to put him in charge of top teer games when his record is there for all to see.

All the more reason to question why Noble wasn't charged after berating the officials at the Crusaders game last season in full view of an 11,000+ crowd at the KC.

maybe Jonn Sharp ordered it
